The PD Scientist II will be responsible for independently evaluating, selecting, and performing upstream or downstream manufacturing processes on plasmid DNA. The PD Scientist II will accomplish specific assignment objectives and implement solutions with minimal supervision. The PD Scientist II will rely on a strong base of experience and participate in cross-functional teams to achieve business goals.
Essential functions of this position:
- Independently perform upstream or downstream plasmid manufacturing processes as a primary responsibility. Plan and troubleshoot experiments with limited supervision.
- Investigate a limited number of experimental variables to achieve clear and specific project results within a narrow focus area
- Rely on experience and data-driven decision-making to plan and accomplish goals
- Work with R&D, MFG, MSAT, and QC groups to facilitate technology transfers
- Prepare figures, technical information, and slides for reports and presentations
Position Qualifications:
- Bachelor of Science or Master's degree in Biochemistry, Biological Sciences, Bioengineering, Chemistry, or related scientific discipline.
- Minimum 3+ years' experience in biotechnology or pharmaceutical industry or a comparable academic institution, performing in a process development, R&D, or manufacturing role
- Travel as necessary for technology transfers and/or conferences
- Experience with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within fermentation, alkaline lysis, tangential flow filtration, and/or purification processes for plasmid DNA
- Experience in documenting work in laboratory notebooks, presentations, and written reports.
- Demonstrated basic project planning skills
- Working knowledge of plasmid, protein, and/or RNA related analytics
- Ability to communicate technical information for documents, presentations, or reports
- Experience with mRNA and/or protein production is a plus
The anticipated salary range for candidates who will work in San Diego is $70,000.00-85,000.00. The final salary offered to a successful candidate will be dependent on several factors that may include but are not limited to the type and length of experience within the job, type and length of experience within the industry, education, etc . Wacker is a multi state employer and this salary range may not reflect positions that work in other states.
