At our San Diego site, we are currently looking for a ​Process Development Associate Director​ to be a part of our growing team.



Job Responsibilities

This position is responsible to lead the team responsible for early stage development of Bioprocesses.

  • Ensure adequate resourcing for the timely development of Bioprocesses and transfer to Production or the Manufacturing and Science Technology (MSAT) team.
  • Ensure the continuous development of the BioTech Process Development (BPD) team in San Diego to meet the customer requirements and evolution of Bioprocess development technologies.
  • Build the necessary BPD capabilities and capacities at the San Diego site. Define the necessary scientific and technical competences required to achieve the project planning for both long term and short term.
  • Ensure continuous planning of resources to develop the customers´ bioprocess according to defined timelines. Maximize the productivity of the BPD team and project throughput.
  • Support commercial activities (BD, PM), by ensuring technical expertise in the review of request for proposal, preparation of proposal and technical calls with the prospects and customers.
  • Work with the other BPD global teams to ensure development of cross-site cooperation, cross-site competences and global coordination.
  • Coordinate with QC & MSAT for the development of Analytics and Bioprocesses in order to ensure adequate transfer to QC and production.
  • Lead and manage the BDP team and department its growth.  Ensure the development of team members, prepare budget plans (sales goals, expenses) and set setting ambitious goals for the BPD to ensure the profitability of the team. 
  • Define plan and lead the implementation of new manufacturing capabilities at Wacker Biotech in close cooperation with the central R&D organization
  • Deliver technical presentation at conferences to promote Wacker Biotech´s capabilities and expertise.



  • Bachelor's Degree in Biology, Chemistry, Engineering or related scientific field is required.  Master's Degree or PhD in a scientific field is preferred.
  • Minimum 10 years of relevant experience with 5 years in Contract Development and Manufacturing services of Biopharmaceuticals.  Prior management experience is also required.
  • cGMP manufacturing of Plasmid is required.
  • Travel anticipated upto 20% travel
