Our regional presence in the U.S. is focused on GMP-compliant manufacturing of plasmid DNA products up to 500L. The team has extensive experience up to phase III clinical supply and successfully released more than 100 GMP batches for advanced therapy applications. 

At our San Diego site, we are currently looking for a ​Materials Manager​ to be a part of our growing team.



Job Responsibilities


The Materials Manager is responsible for the purchasing of goods and services for Wacker Biotech such as raw materials, equipment and all kind of services.   Accountable for ensuring the availability of materials, services and capital goods in development and production at the lowest possible prices, the lowest possible storage capital and the highest possible flexibility.  This position will also be responsible for managing onsite and off-site warehouses and a small staff.


  • Manages and administers materials management functions, such as the planning, procurement, storage, inventory control, and distribution of materials and products to meet company objectives and customer requirements.
  • Oversees the flow of materials, parts, and assemblies within or between departments in accordance with production and shipping schedules or department priorities. Assures that maintenance of the inventory control system is accurate
  • Ensures the compatibility / flexibility of the purchasing and logistics processes through monitoring, execution and implementation of all purchasing and logistics (shipping, import & export) processes inside and outside the merchandise management system, including the implementation of all GMP requirements in the areas of purchasing and logistics.
  • Planning, implementation and evaluation of the annual inventories.  Monitors the correct storage of finished and intermediate products as well as raw, auxiliary and operating materials.  Manages material and supply planning for implementation of production campaigns.
  • Acquiring new and maintaining existing supplier relationships. Implementation of the risk management of suppliers and the ability to negotiate, implement and review of supplier contracts (conditions, prices, deadlines, terms, etc.).  Manages the complaint process with suppliers.
  • Leads to the Materials department for the site.  Accountable for the management of the department employees and the planning of the budget as part of the budget planning process, control of cost center expenditure.
  • Utilizes the ERP system (SAP) and responsible for mapping of all purchasing and logistics processes, master data and reports in the ERP system
  • Manage day to day activities of the warehouse
  • Perform materials management operations, including receiving, storage, shipment, inventory management, and order processing of all materials for Wacker Biotech manufacturing projects
  • Drive continuous improvement of supplies, movement, and processes to reduce waste and improve service levels
  • Collaborate with laboratory and manufacturing personnel to ensure effective management of raw materials supply to support GMP and laboratory operations
  • Work with the inventory system to ensure adequate materials are available and released in time to support GMP production
  • Develop or modify SOPs for material management processes, as necessary
  • Implement and maintain strict GMP procedures and lead any efforts required to address and close any material deviations or non-conformance
  • Perform inventory cycle count and physical count
  • Ensure the Team performs accurate and timely inventory transactions in logbooks, inventory systems, and purchasing systems
  • Work closely with the Planning/Buying team to identify supply shortages and higher usage rates than expected
  • Oversee and support direct reports and new employees
  • Prepare and file detailed records on procurement activity, quantity, and vendors
  • Assists on other related tasks as assigned by Management


  • Bachelor’s degree in Procurement, Supply Chain or other related field
  • Minimum 7 years of experience in materials related position with at least 3 years supervising employees.
  • Minimum of 5 years related experience in a regulated material management environment in biotech or life sciences with a minimum of 2 years of experience managing staff
  • APICS certification  preferred, but not required
