Our regional presence in the U.S. is focused on GMP-compliant manufacturing of plasmid DNA products up to 500L. The team has extensive experience up to phase III clinical supply and successfully released more than 100 GMP batches for advanced therapy applications.  At our San Diego site, we are currently looking for a ​Business Development Specialist​ to join our growing team.

Job Responsibilities

The Business Development Specialist will support Wacker Biotech's growth targets in North America with a focus on plasmid DNA and related manufacturing services. This role will enhance visibility of Wacker Biotech in the U.S., support customer acquisition and actively participate in the Request-for-Proposal (RFP) process.

  • Develop a broad network in the Biologics Biopharma sector to identify new customer leads and enhance visibility of Wacker Biotech in the U.S
  • Maintain regular contacts with customer leads and promote Wacker Biotech's capabilities and capacities according to the customer's needs
  • Support the local Business Development team by driving proposal generation in a highly technical environment
  • Ensure consistent proposal quality and creation of "fit for purpose" proposals that: understand and meet customers' needs, are supported by and aligned with operations
  • Responsible for the evaluation and translation of customer needs from RFP into project scope, timelines, costs, quotations and pricing by coordinating and working with technical and operational functions
  • Overall accountability for harmonized and state-of-the-art proposal templates and project calculations
  • Provide tactical sales and marketing support
  • Continuous market monitoring


  • Master's in life sciences or related discipline (Biotechnology, Biochemical Engineering, Biology or Biochemistry or related field preferred)
  • Minimum 3 years of business development experience at (bio)pharmaceutical organizations, preferably in the biopharmaceutical CDMO sector
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple, scientific projects and make sound scientific interpretations and judgments
  • Enjoys approaching new customers and values building long term customer relations
  • Ability to travel 40-50% domestic and internationally
  • Excellent verbal / written communication and technical presentation skills
  • Strong customer focus and solution-oriented approach
  • Appreciates working in a growing and dynamic biotech atmosphere and being part of a very international setting
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast paced, pressured environment
  • Has a clear hands-on and very proactive attitude
  • Strong interpersonal and collaborative skills
  • Ability to build strong relationships across a global matrix organization
  • Computer skills (expertise with MS Project, Excel, PowerPoint, Word, database applications)
