At our San Diego, California site, we are currently looking for a ​Associate Director, Facilities Operations and Maintenance to be a part of our growing team.

Position Overview:

Wacker Bitotech is seeking a highly organized and motivated team member to join our facilities operations. Reporting to the Chief of Operations, the Associate Director, Facility Operations & Maintenance is a key member of the Operations team responsible for facilities operations & maintenance of Wacker Biotech US’s cGMP manufacturing facilities, laboratories, and offices. Wacker is a safety-first organization, and this position will be critical in maintaining a safe work environment

The successful candidate will be an established engineering leader with experience in facility management including both hard and soft services. Wacker is a matrix organization; therefore, the successful candidate must be willing and able to communicate and collaborate with team members on site, regionally and at global level.  A high level of initiative, energy, and motivation are key role requirements, as well as excellent leadership, technical understanding and management of complexity and effective collaboration with internal and external stakeholders.

 

What will you be doing?

  • Provide leadership for the site Facilities team, and coach and mentor less experienced team members
  • Lead and manage day-to-day operations, budget, resource prioritization and facilities projects.
  • Develop scope of facilities projects, specifications, RFPs and quotation, contracting, project management and execution
  • Manages all facility site services to support daily operations while ensuring facility & utility systems are 100% operational.
  • Manages utility plant operations, maintenance and repairs, continuous improvement projects and designated capital projects.
  • Interface with laboratory and operation teams to ensure all facility management needs are fulfilled.
  • Manage site services directly or via 3rd party providers including janitorial, maintenance, automation, security, pest control, and other site support services as needed.
  • Provides expertise in establishing and refining preventive maintenance programs, resource scheduling, spare parts inventory, efficiency improvement programs, etc.
  • Oversee and support the integrated facilities management (IFM) function including enterprise asset management (CMMS) performance management (KPIs), reporting, SOPs and service agreements
  • Single point of contact and business owner for on-site asset management.
  • Supports building management systems and other plant automation and data acquisition systems to include troubleshooting.
  • Support and manage deviations, investigations and CAPAs related to GxP maintenance, utilities and building automation systems.
  • Follow and manage operational EH&S and security systems and policies.
  • Develop and maintain site engineering drawings, records and files in accordance with applicable regulations. Maintain all documentation in a prepared state for both internal and external auditing.
  • Other activities and duties as required or assigned.

 

Education and Experience:

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering (mechanical, electrical, or related field) or equivalent; or equivalent combination of education and experience, minimum 12 years of facilities and engineering, building operations or facilities management experience in the biotechnology or pharmaceutical industry and GMP.
  •  At least 7 years in a supervisory or management role
  • Advanced technical certification (F.E, P.E., FMA, PMP)
  • Strong technical knowledge of mechanical, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, building automation, and safety systems
  • Knowledge of OSHA regulations
  • Experience and comfortable in a fast-paced, collaborative small company environment, working with minimal direction and able to adjust workload based upon changing priorities

  • Excellent ability to manage multiple tasks, prioritize and meet required deadlines
  • Superior organizational skills with keen attention to detail
  • Exceptional customer service skills and experience with ability to successfully collaborate with all Wacker’s team members in a high-paced environment
  • Excellent communication skills
  • This position requires a professional who will be expected to perform tasks autonomously at times; minimum supervision required on day-to-day activities and accomplished tasks.

 

Not a must, but highly preferred skills:

  • Trained in Siemens Insight Apogee and/or Desigo CC
  • Lean Six Sigma, OSHA 10/40 hour training and/or certification
  • Prior experience with GMP site development and start-up
  • Prior experience with regulated E software
  • Knowledge of AutoCAD (2D)
