
The Chemical Operator is responsible for safely operating chemical production processes, handling raw materials and finished goods, and maintaining a clean, compliant, and efficient work environment. This role requires strong attention to detail, adherence to safety and environmental regulations, and the ability to follow written instructions and standard operating procedures. Operators support daily production by running equipment, performing logistical tasks, monitoring process conditions, and responding to equipment or process issues. All operators receive comprehensive training in plant procedures, safety practices, and hazardous waste handling in accordance with regulatory requirements.
Position Responsibilities
Chemical Process Operation & Material Handling
- Follow written work instructions and process documentation to safely operate chemical production processes.
- Measure, mix, and add chemicals according to formulas or batch instructions.
- Operate and monitor production equipment including reactors, pumps, valves, distillation systems, and related process units.
- Perform logistical tasks including movement of raw materials and finished goods.
- Record process data, equipment readings, and production results accurately.
- Identify and report abnormal conditions, equipment malfunctions, or safety concerns.
Production Support & Daily Operations
- Perform safe work practices at all times and comply with all safety procedures.
- Read, follow, and complete in‑process instructions, including documentation of work steps and results.
- Operate fork trucks and other material‑handling equipment.
- Package finished products according to specifications.
- Collect samples of in‑process and finished materials for quality testing.
- Unload tankers and receive raw materials safely and efficiently.
- Maintain housekeeping standards in production areas.
- Report upset conditions, mechanical breakdowns, or process deviations to supervision.
Workplace Organization & 5S Cleaning
- Apply 5S principles to maintain an organized, efficient, and safe work environment.
- Sort: Remove unnecessary items from the work area.
- Set in Order: Arrange tools and materials for easy access and proper labeling.
- Shine: Clean equipment and workspaces regularly to identify issues early.
- Standardize: Follow established procedures to maintain cleanliness and organization.
- Sustain: Support a culture of continuous improvement through consistent 5S practices.
- Perform routine cleaning and inspection to ensure equipment is in good working condition.
Training & Development
- Participate in required training on equipment, processes, safety, and regulatory compliance.
- Serve as a trainer for new or less experienced operators when needed.
- Maintain readiness to respond to emergencies involving hazardous materials or waste.
- Stay current on updates to procedures, policies, and environmental requirements.
Position Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED required
- Associates Degree preferred
- 1 year of experience required
- Ability to read, understand and correctly interpret technical specification and design documents and drawings.
- Ability to work in a team environment with all others acting as both a leader and a follower, as needed.
- Sound written and verbal skills to share and receive information with a variety of team members and external agents.
- Ability to work with power and hand tools, drive a fork truck or other industrial vehicle
