WACKER POLYSILICON is the global leader in the production of polycrystalline hyperpure silicon for the semiconductor and solar solar industries. At our Charleston site, we are currently looking for a Technical Operator Trainee (Temporary Program) to join our growing team.

 

Please note:  Only candidates who do NOT have a high school diploma/GED and willing to complete within first 90 days at WACKER will be considered for this position.

 

Provide educational opportunity to individuals interested in receiving their high school equivalency diploma while working at WACKER through Temporary Agency. After successful completion of HiSET test, participants will be eligible to apply for an entry level – Technical Operator – full time position with WACKER.

 

This position will perform production duties three days per week.

During these days, work will include manual tasks for meeting safety and production goals. Two days per week, participants will attend classes to prepare for HiSet Test.

 

Job Responsibilities:

  • Perform production duties on the line
  • Attend to machine errors
  • Use a 15 lb hammer for crushing silicon rods; lift 22 lb bags to unload them in a box
  • Input downtime information into the downtime tracking system
  • Report on production issues, provide feedback to technical staff
  • Contact appropriate personnel when additional expertise is required
  • Follow company policies regarding health and environmental protection, work safety, plant safety and quality
  • Responsible for RCRA generation as relating to container and labeling usage, maintenance and storage functions, and regular inspections of RCRA applicable areas
  • Other duties as assigned

 

Job Requirements:

  •  Some technical and mechanical aptitude and basic computer skills
  •  Physical strength and endurance are essential for this position
  •  Effectively communicate with team members and other stakeholders
  •  Skill set to operate in a fast paced production environment while focusing on safety, quality and precision
  • Work with WACKER through Temp Agency for a maximum of 6 months
  • Successful completion of HiSet Test and receipt of High School Equivalency Diploma within 6 months of start date
  • Schedule will be from 7 am – 3:30 pm Monday - Friday
  • Tuesday and Thursday mornings, attend classes for 4 hours/day = 8 hours/week
  • For remainder of schedule, work as a Trainee in a Technical Operator position. (Additional hours - to total 40 - may be obtained after determining the amount of time needed to complete course studies)
  • A current WACKER team member will be assigned as a buddy
  • Must be able to be frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts, electrical equipment, mechanical equipment and vibration
  • This position will be required to work at all work stations in a rotational manner.  Rotation frequency varies
