At our Charleston site, we are currently looking for a(n) Summer Intern - Engineering/Maintenance to be a part of our growing team.



Wacker is currently seeking one ambitious paid summer intern for our 8-week program, commencing the beginning of June and concludes the end of July. The Maintenance Intern will be asked to perform several projects consisting of developing and author maintenance work instructions based on OEM and engineering recommendations regarding PSM reference information, specific to the Silicon Grinding, HCl Generation, and CSR areas, optimize preventative/predictive maintenance plans to minimize unplanned failures and costly repairs of equipent. Under the direction of the Maintenance Engineering Manger You’ll  be involved in all aspects of several important projects.


Job Responsibilities:

  • Optimize preventative/predictive maintenance plans to minimize unplanned failures and costly repairs of equipment by developing and authoring maintenance work instructions based on engineering recommendations regarding process safety management reference information
  • Take area maintenance plan work instruction coverage from +/- 10% to +/- 60% coverage by performming field evaluations of plans in rough draft to ensure feasibility and effectiveness of preventative maintenance plans prior to submittal for approval.  This would include meeting technicians and operations personnel in field for evaluaton
  • Ensure regulatory compliance of all newly created maintenance plan woirk instructions by adhering to OEM and process safety management guidelines by meeting with area engineers and maintenance supervision/management to get feedback and/or suggestions to optimize plans


Job Qualitifications:

  • Must be a rising Sophomore, Junior or Senior student enrolled in a university in any of the following majors:  Chemical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering
  • Must have a 3.0 GPA
