What you will do:
This position will provide legal counsel for the Company’s North and Central America region with a focus on commercial and construction matters.
- Provide legal support to business team on large and complex commercial issues, simultaneously managing multiple tasks and subprojects effectively
- Provide legal support on large construction and CAPEX matters, including providing legal advice and support in the project strategy development, drafting, and negotiating relevant construction contracts, advising project teams on legal risks, and working with business leaders to resolve claims and disputes associated with projects
- Provide legal support in drafting, reviewing, and negotiating international and domestic commercial agreements. Examples may include purchase and supply contracts; vendor buying agreements; sales representation agreements; distribution agreements; master sales and service agreements; leases; and license agreements. Provide support regarding contract interpretation and guidance, including related to disputes
- Provide legal support on antitrust issues and legal risks
- Cost-effectively partner with and manage outside counsel as necessary
- Collaborate with Legal Department members on departmental policies, procedures, and initiatives, legal issues and risks, and other matters
- Work in close cooperation with the global Legal Department, including Company attorneys in Germany and China
- Support the implementation and use, including any appropriate training, of relevant Company software, technology, and programs pertinent to the Legal Department (e.g., ContractPodAi, Ariba, KLEA, etc.)
- Update legal and leadership teams regarding major developments in ongoing matters
- Assist in developing and overseeing the implementation of corporate policies and procedures with members of the leadership team and the Legal Department

What we need from you:
- J.D. degree from a top-rated, accredited U.S. law school and licensed to practice in at least one U.S. state
- 6+ years of legal experience, including at least 2 years as in-house counsel; manufacturing, construction, and/or chemical industry experience preferred
- Commercial, construction, anti-trust, and general in-house experience
- Collaborate without ego and promote the collegial atmosphere of the Legal Department
- Sound business and legal judgment required; experience with negotiation of complex commercial contracts in the chemical industry preferred; experience with construction law and projects and contracts preferred
- Ability to advise and interact with executives and business segment managers with confidence and to analyze and translate legal principles into practical business solutions, as well as establish a rapport and working relationship with business managers
- Detail-oriented and able to prioritize and manage multiple projects and/or issues
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Capable of adapting to organizational culture and to assimilate into local, regional, and global styles
- Demonstrate ability to make decisions and the flexibility to quickly learn new areas of law where required
- Proactive and decisive, with the ability to learn quickly, work independently, and influence others while maintaining highest level of integrity and professionalism
