WACKER SILICONES is one of the world’s biggest silicone manufacturers with silicone-based system solutions and over 3,000 different products. At our Charleston site, we are currently looking for a(n) ​Production Engineer, HDK​ to join our growing team.

 

This position reports to the HDK Production Manager and will serve as their deputy. This role will serve as a process expert for both HDK Reaction and Packaging and will support the Production Manager and Operations team to ensure the HDK plant achieves safety, quality, and production goals.  This individual will identify improvement opportunities and lead projects to improve throughput, quality, efficiency, and reliability.  They will initiate and lead MOCs, develop and track KPIs, approve SOP updates, serve as commissioning lead for newly installed equipment, and conduct environmental reporting for HDK.  In addition, the job holder shall observe internal company regulations (e.g., corporate policies concerning quality, safety and the environment) and strategic division targets, as well as all prevailing industry standards and regulations.

 

Job Responsibilities:

  • Serve as process expert for HDK and support all activities for HDK to meet the safety, quality, and production goals.  This includes process monitoring, coordinating with the shift teams, providing input on the schedule, setting operating parameters and recipes, and monitoring quality.  Serve as deputy to the Production Manager.
  • Initiate and develop process monitoring tools for HDK.  Assist and establish KPIs for Reaction and Packaging and develop tracking methods for safety, quality, throughput, OEE, and environmental reporting.  Initiate and execute MOCs and update SOPs accordingly.
  • Independently identify, initiate, conduct, and manage improvement opportunities applying expert technical expertise related to throughput, product quality, and cost of operation.
  • Serve as commissioning lead for new equipment and process optimizations, specifically those initiated by upcoming capital projects for HDK.  Serve as process expert on relevant process teams across the site and globally.

 

Qualifications Required:

  • Bachelor's Degree, with relevant professional experience in Chemical Operations; Bachelor's Degree in Chemical Engineering preferred
  • 7+ years of professional experience in chemical operations and production, ideally in silicone related technology
  • Strong process optimization experience
  • Demonstrated leadership abilities
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively take ownership of complex systems and problems
  • Demonstrated organization and communication skills, necessary to lead in a fast-paced environment with some degree of ambiguity, changing priorities and business needs as part of multi-disciplinary teams
  • Experience in chemical plant operations
  • Strong leadership qualities
  • Ability to work under pressure
  • Knowledge of Six Sigma
  • Able to perform and succeed in an environment of cost pressure 
  • Capable of professionally dealing with changing priorities and requirements 
  • Strong organizational skills 
  • Experience in systematic process and quality control  
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills 
  • Experience in team work/team leading
  • Ability to simply and clearly convey and communicate complex concepts within various levels of the organization. 
  • Ability to analyze data
