WACKER POLYSILICON is the global leader in the production of polycrystalline hyperpure silicon for the semiconductor and solar solar industries.
At our Charleston site, we are currently looking for a(n) Production Engineer to be a part of our growing team.



The Production Engineer is responsible for continuous monitoring of quality in the production network, final product, and response to deviations; identification and coordination of production process optimization with Plant Team; facilitating new product trials and scale-ups with Plant Team; and troubleshooting process/equipment problems. The incumbent will introduce process improvements to achieve operating cost reduction, waste/downgrades reduction, and quality improvement. The Production Engineer also supports Safety and Environmental compliance including OSHA PSM activities such as PHA, PSSR and MOC. 


Job Responsibilities

  • Optimize production processes and plant capacity – reduce operating cost, improve product quality, reduce waste/downgrades.  Improve overall OEE
  • Troubleshoot issues – interface with operations personnel to resolve daily production issues/problems providing on-call support as needed
  • Partner and align with other departments and functions to:

    • Assist Development in new product trials and scale-ups to the plant

    • Maintain PSM compliance – perform required safety tasks, complete required training courses, participate in MOC/PSSR process

    • Assist with design reviews, hazard reviews, etc. as needed

    • Provide support and training to operators

  • Other duties as required



  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Engineering Technology related fields
  • 3-5 years process/production engineering experience; preferably in the Chemicals manufacturing industry

  • Must be able to determine solutions to material loss, downgrades and equipment performance issues
  • Must be able to learn and understand complex integrated processes
  • Learn, explain and write procedures
  • Work independently with little supervision
  • Establish and maintain effective and cooperative work environment with others
  • Must be able to identify opportunities for cost reduction in the operating process
  • Must be able to multi-task
  • Basic knowledge of Six Sigma, Lean, and Continuous Improvement (CI) methodologies
  • Process Controls and DCS experience
  • Strong process/production troubleshooting skills

  • Good interpersonal and communication skills

  • Strong computer skills and technical background
