WACKER POLYSILICON is the global leader in the production of polycrystalline hyperpure silicon for the semiconductor and solar solar industries. At our Charleston site, we are currently looking for a(n) Process Development Engineer to join our growing team.

 

Purpose
The Process Development Engineer provides process support and development engineering services in the chemical vapor deposition (CVD) process and H2-recovery system to produce hyperpure polycrystalline silicon to the semiconductor and solar market. Optimization of the production processes is achieved by initiating, conducting, and managing investigations and projects focused on evaluating, improving, and validating processes, procedures, equipment, and supplies focused on safety, quality, cost reduction, and productivity.

 

Job Responsibilities

  • Initiate, conduct, and manage projects to achieve process improvement in the chemical vapor deposition (CVD) process and H2-recovery system by testing, evaluating, and validating processes, procedures, equipment, and supplies focused on safety, quality, cost reduction, and productivity.
  • Lead or participate in interdepartmental teams or working groups to support operations and engineering in identifying and correcting deviations from standard processes, quality, or capabilities. 
  • Monitor and ensure continuous alignment of quality, processes, and products among corresponding departments, local management, and global partners. 
  • IP protection by patent application as needed as well as monitoring of competitor patents, researching information about technological trends and technology applied by competitors. 

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Physics or closely related technical degree required.
  • Master's degree or Ph.D. in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Physics or closely related technical degree, preferred
  • Highly motivated recent graduates will be considered
  • 0-3 years of related experience; 2+ years of professional experience in chemical manufacturing or chemical industry environment is preferred
  • R&D experience in Chemical Vapor Deposition processes and/or Silicon chemistry strongly preferred.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to effectively take ownership of complex systems and problems, plan investigations, and efficiently find solutions.
  • Established organization and communication skills, necessary to succeed in a fast-paced environment with some degree of ambiguity, changing priorities and business needs as part of multi-disciplinary teams.
  • A team player, proactively working and collaborating with various departments and levels of the organization including international colleagues.
  • Knowledge in six sigma methodology and evaluation of process data with tools like Minitab, Matlab, or Tableau is highly desired.
