At our site in Charleston, we are currently looking for a ​Public Relations Manager​ to join our growing team.

 

Job Responsibilities

The Communications/PR Manager is responsible for obtaining visibility for WACKER across the region. This includes the oversight of agencies and projects that support the strategic communications and PR needs for public awareness of WACKER: its mission, products, brand, business growth, community support, and more. This manager is responsible for building and maintaining relationships with relevant local, regional, business and trade publications; drafting and/or editing press releases, key messages, presentation scripts, ads, and other content, and coordinating their appropriate uses. The individual is also responsible for coaching senior leaders – onsite and regionally – on presentation and interview skills; managing media visits (print and broadcast); and pitching stories as appropriate. In collaboration with EHSS and onsite leads, the individual is also responsible for managing and overseeing the regional Crisis Communications plan as well as drafting and delivering proactive onsite responses, when needed, to crisis situations.                             

  • Management of ongoing external communications (PR and Corporate Relations-focused) and coordination of related collateral projects and external PR agency support across the region. Topical areas of focus include growth initiatives, advocacy-related opportunities, sustainability initiatives, values-driven initiatives, media events, and related activities
  • Manage media relations activities for the region. This includes the drafting/editing of press releases, development of key messages, active media pitching, and preparation and arrangement of interviews on strategic topics
  • Seek opportunities and place thought leader articles and speaking engagements in business and trade media/events with appropriate alignment of messaging with internal subject matter experts, site representatives, and executives.
  • Update and oversee crisis communications program, update existing program with input from EHSS and site leads. Arrange training and coaching as needed to support the establishment of smooth-running processes and response-ready spokespeople across region

Qualifications

 

  • Bachelor's Degree in Journalism, Communications, Media, or related.
  • Minimum of 7 years of relevant professional experience in a media relations or communications position for a global organization. Experience pitching, drafting and placing news stories in trade or business publications. 
  • Ability to travel on an average 10-20%
  • Experience managing strategic communications initiatives for global for-profit business, preferably in chemicals, high-tech or manufacturing environment.
  • Experience in relationship building and story placements with business and trade media - online, print and broadcast - and demonstrated success achieving targeted branding on business topics.
  • Experience building, maintaining and utilizing effective relationships and network of internal corporate resources as "go-to" subject matter experts for media on a range of corporate topics such as products, DEI, and community activities.
  • Strong facilitation and diplomacy skills required in order to align site and divisional needs with opportunities to improve regional and global branding and visibility.
  •  Experience managing external agencies to support communication needs for event management, videos, media outreach, and related initiatives.
  • Experience coaching high-level corporate leaders in presentation and interview skills and managing interviews, media visits, and presentations with external organizations.
  • Demonstrated writing skills related to news releases, internal messages, and leadership messages. Work samples will be requested.
  • Experience using newswire services and digital media distribution tools as well as Microsoft Office software such as Word, Excel, Powerpoint. Experience with project management, marcom, and/or intranet tools such as Asana, Basecamp, Marketo, Unily, Sharepoint or others preferred. Also, preferred is experience (basic) with AdobeSuite tools such as InDesign, PhotoShop and Premier Pro.
