What you will do:
This position performs a variety of mechanical engineering work tasks to maintain and continuously improve mechanical equipment systems at the Charleston site as well as oversee critical work processes for specific equipment classes (static equipment such as heat exchangers, pressure vessels, reactors, pressure relief devices and/or dynamic equipment like pumps, compressors, fans). This position provides engineering and technical services to Operations, Process & Facilities Engineering teams and additional service units to assure safe, compliant, and reliable operations at optimum costs.
Technical Duties:
- Optimize system startup, shutdown, and continuous running practices to improve equipment stability and extend lifetime. Ensure best practices are carried across site units where applicable.
- Revise/create relevant design, specification, and maintenance documentation standards per applicable industry standards and best practices.
- Perform engineering design/exercise engineering judgment to improve equipment as necessary in accordance with management of change and other PSM-compliant programs.
- Support site maintenance teams in the planning and execution of equipment maintenance.
- Interface between the regional/international Wacker sites regarding specific mechanical equipment classes.
- Become an expert capable of exercising mechanical engineering judgement with respect to the assigned subject matters, including root cause analysis, specifications, repair strategies and more.
- Lead or participate in repair and fit-for-service decisions in combination with QA/QC, Mechanical Integrity and Maintenance teams.
- Project management responsibilities including creation/management of projects in SAP, oversight of costs, quality and schedule etc.
- Drive and support continuous improvement activities related to safety, quality, availability and cost.
- Cooperate with groups and individuals within the Engineering and Maintenance teams, within Operations, and other service units with a focus on achieving optimal results and solutions from a corporate enterprise perspective.
Administrative Duties:
- Keep documentation, equipment records, and BOMs up to date.
- Supervise 3rd party providers for engineering and maintenance services as needed.
- Represent WACKER’s interests towards authorities, suppliers, and contractors.
- Perform all tasks and assignments in accordance with WACKER policies and procedures.
- All other duties as assigned.
What we need from you:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering (or related discipline) is required
- 4+ years of experience in a chemical manufacturing environment is required
- Proven qualification and experience working with more than one these equipment classes: Heat exchangers, pressure vessels and relief devices, piping, compressors, pumps, cranes, process fans
- Thorough technical knowledge in the field of mechanical engineering relevant to typical process equipment in the chemical industry including a familiarity of relevant regulations, standards, and codes.
- Familiar in working with process flow diagrams, process and instrumentation diagrams, pipeline isometrics, and equipment drawings.
- Understanding of function and design of processing equipment and piping systems including gas compressors, heat exchangers, pressure vessels, etc.
- Objective judgement and fact-based decision-making approach.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work in interdisciplinary and intercultural teams.
- Capability to professionally deal with changing priorities and requirements.
- Strong multitasking competency.
- Ability to perform and succeed in an environment of schedule and cost pressure.
- Team player attitude.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications such as Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Ability to learn and utilize computer software programs.
- Preferred, but not required: Six Sigma and Lean, SAP EAM, Comos, CAD Software
- Must be physically fit to wear an air purifying respirator if necessary
- Due to schedule and milestone requirements, a nonstandard work schedule such as nights, holidays, and/or weekends may be required
