At our Charleston site, we are currently looking for a Manager, Maintenance Shop to be a part of our growing team.



The Maintenance Shop Manager is responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of the Charleston Maintenance Shop ensuring safe and compliant shop operations. The Maintenance Shop team supports all site divisions by providing repairs and fabrication services required for plant maintenance, operations, shutdowns, and turnarounds


Job Responsibilities

Managerial Duties

  • Ensure safe operating conditions of the maintenance shop
  • Manage maintenance shop budgets and cost centers
  • Manage maintenance shop building facilities and coordinate 3rd party service providers
  • Manage Compressor/Refrigeration rebuild team and Crane maintenance team
  • Manage all site fabrication jobs, coordinating with 3rd party shops for overflow work
  • Manage the valve repair shop (operated by 3rd party provider holding VR certificate)
  • Manage fabrication jobs for warehouse-stocked materials
  • Compile and provide reports related to area of responsibility
  • Institute and manage R-Stamp work, ensuring compliance with NBIC and written WACKER Quality System
  • Identify and manage continuous improvement activities in the maintenance shop related to safety, quality, and cost
  • Ensure all required trainings are completed by all shop team members
  • Represent WACKER’s interests in dealings with authorities, suppliers, and contractors.

Technical Duties

  • Ensure all required preventative and predictive maintenance is performed on shop equipment
  • Maintain regulatory compliance of the maintenance shop
  • Maintain maintenance team leased vehicles
  • Ensure technical basis of large flange resurfacing jobs is maintained
  • Develop and report KPI’s related to shop activities
  • Utilize Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS)/SAP effectively to accomplish and document jobs in an efficient and organized manner
  • Cooperate with groups and individuals within the Engineering & Maintenance department, Operations, and other service units with focus on achieving optimal results and/or solutions
  • Perform all tasks and assignments in accordance with WACKER’s policies and procedures


  • Bachelor’s degree (or higher-level education) in the preferred field of mechanical or electrical engineering and/or industrial mechanical maintenance
  • Minimum 10 years’ combined professional experience in the field of mechanical/electrical engineering and/or industrial mechanical maintenance, supervision
  • Fundamental knowledge of machining/machine shop fabrication equipment and methods experience of chemical plant production environment or related.
  • Fundamental knowledge of welding methods and techniques
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to perform and succeed in an environment of schedule and cost pressure
  • Capability to professionally deal with changing priorities and requirements
  • Thorough understanding of engineering principles and maintenance practices
  • Expertise and proficiency with basic office computer software, and the ability to learn how to effectively use maintenance software to input data and research parts
  • Thorough technical knowledge in the field of industrial mechanical/electrical maintenance, including relevant regulations, standards, and codes.
  • Ability to read and understand complex diagrams.
  • Mature leadership and employee management skills combined with team player attitude.
  • Objective judgment and fact-based decision-making approach.
  • Ability and willingness for domestic and international travel
