The Maintenance Shop Supervisor ensures the safe, compliant, and efficient performance of the plastic, machine, and weld/fabrication shops and associated team members within the Maintenance Shop. Responsibilities include prioritizing and assigning work to team, communicating with customers, identifying training needs, and providing performance feedback to team members. Under a certified code repair shop, the Shop Supervisor provides training, instructions, and guidance to a team of welders. This includes reviewing welding and repair work to ensure proper techniques in the use of a variety of welding equipment. The Shop Supervisor maintains compliance with ASME and NBIC standards, and WACKER’s R-Stamp Quality Manual in all applicable work performed in the shop and in the field.


Job Responsibilities:

  • Provide supervisory services to direct reports: performance appraisals, address safety concerns
  • Communicate with customers, prioritize jobs, schedule work
  • Assess jobs, develop estimates, identify/order materials
  • Code work: maintains weld certifications, coordinate with QA/QC department, maintain compliance with NBIC and ASME codes, coordinate with AIA


Job Requirements:

  • Associate degree, Journeymen (or higher-level education) in the field of Mechanical engineering and/or industrial maintenance or technical certificate from a qualified welding vocational school
  • Minimum 5 years of supervisory experience in construction, maintenance, or a fabrication shop and minimum 7 years of recent welding experience in a code workshop preferred
  • Certified Weld Inspector (CWI) preferred
  • Experience with welding techniques and procedures in an ASME code repair shop; ability to read/interpret weld procedure specifications (WPS)
  • Experience reading and applying quality specifications
  • Experience reading and comprehending equipment drawings, piping drawings and piping isometrics
  • Experience reading and applying requirements from ASME code manuals
  • Experience using SAP software to track jobs, purchase materials, and record hours
  • Strong welding / welding knowledge background in GTAW, GMAW, FCAW processes; previous ASME Sec IX certification in one or more processes preferred
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Team player and positive attitude
  • Detail oriented
  • Strong organizational skills and multi-task competency
