WACKER POLYSILICON is the global leader in the production of polycrystalline hyperpure silicon for the semiconductor and solar solar industries. At our Charleston site, we are currently looking for a Lab Technician - Chemical Analytics to join our growing team.


The Lab Technician - Chemical Analytics will perform analysis of polysilicon products with respect to surface contamination in a cleanroom environment.  The Lab Technician - Chemical Analytics will also maintain the cleanroom and data output at a high standard and maintain distillations, ICP-MS, LECO and lab hardware for continued sample throughput.


Job Responsibilities

Perform analysis of polysilicon products with respect to surface contamination in a cleanroom environment. Maintain the cleanroom and data output at a high standard. Maintain distillations, ICP-MS, LECO and lab hardware for continued sample throughput.

  • Coordinate with internal and external team to prioritize analysis samples.
  • Daily wet bench chemistry inside a metal-free clean room to prepare samples for ICP-MS analysis.
  • Perform ICP-MS and LECO calibration and operate the equipment.
  • Verify the temperature, humidity, pressure and particle count of the cleanroom to ensure it is within operating parameters.
  • Trace analysis including high purity acid distillation (quantitative analysis in a metal-free environment). Implement effective workflows by maintaining quality standards.
  • Maintaining and instructing co-workers or external staff in technical aspects of lab hardware and operation.
  • Develop or maintain and database query knowledge to coordinate and prioritize with logistics, process development and production.
  • Implementing process improvements and method development including process transfer between analytics sites.


  • Associate's degree in a chemical laboratory field
  • Completion of the WACKER approved program at Chattanooga State Community College with a GPA of 3.0 or higher for a chemical laboratory technician certification or comparable certification in combination with relevant work experience
  • Minimum 1 year of work experience in chemical engineering, process support, process development, production or analytics preferred;
  • Minimum 1 year of supervisory experience of qualified staff preferred
  • Chemical instrumentation on ICPMS, FTIR (or strong experience with other Chromatography, Spectroscopy)
  • Strong knowledge of common computer software including MS Office, SAP, database query tools
  • Some experience with laboratory quantitative analysis.
  • Must be comfortable working independently in a trace analysis clean room.
  • Must be meticulous about safety and quality in all laboratory practice.
  • Must be able to work for hours at a time in a cleanroom with PPE doing standardized procedures.
  • Must be both assertive and cooperative with a strong sense of responsibility towards co-workers and quality
