
The Firefighter will perform firefighting, rescue and emergency medical response activities to protect life and property. He/She will respond to a variety of fire, emergency, and non-emergency calls for service. The Firefighter will be responsible for providing technical and complex tasks relative to the assigned area of responsibility as well as promoting fire safety and enforcing fire safety standards throughout the plant.
Job Responsibilities:
- Responding immediately and safely to emergency calls and requests for assistance.
- Performing emergency medical services in relation to the individual’s level of licensure and Wacker medical protocols.
- Attending emergency incidents including fires, accidents, floods, spillages of dangerous substances, etc.
- Performing all phases of fire suppression work, ventilation, overhaul, salvage and clean-up activities at incident scene.
- Conducting search and rescue as a member of a team.
- Safeguarding their own and other people’s personal safety at all times
- Assisting in the performance of periodic Uniform Fire Code inspections of industrial and commercial businesses and places of assembly
- Assisting in the enforcement of the fire prevention codes by following through and documenting violations in need of corrective action
- Operating and driving a fire department vehicle in compliance with all applicable state and local laws, departmental rules, and regulations
- Taking time to become familiar with roads and buildings around the plant in order to respond to emergency calls with the utmost speed and efficiency
- Assisting in the inspection, maintenance, and testing of portable and fixed fire suppression and extinguishing systems and equipment
- Inspecting and maintaining department equipment and apparatus.
- Preparing statistical and analytical reports as required.
- Participating in training, continuing education, drills and physical training.
- Maintaining the level of physical fitness necessary to carry out all the duties of a firefighter
Qualifications Required:
- Minimum H.S. diploma or General Education Degree (GED) required; Associate's degree or higher preferred
- 5 years of experience as a professional firefighter
- Possession of a valid Fire Fighter I & II certificate required
- Possession of an appropriate, valid driver's license required
- Possession of an appropriate, valid C.P.R. certificate required
- Advanced Emergency Medical Technician License required
- Ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions and communicate effectively with others
- Ability to establish and maintain cooperative relationships with fellow Team Members
- Ability to use the computer to keep simple records and prepare reports
- Possess a strong mechanical aptitude and be skilled in operation of heavy emergency equipment
- Ability to perform heavy manual labor
- Possess safety awareness
- Have good judgment and problem solving skills
