
The Firefighter will perform firefighting and emergency medical response activities to protect life and property. He/She will respond to a variety of fire, emergency, and non-emergency calls for service. The Firefighter will be responsible for providing technical and complex tasks relative to assigned area of responsibility as well as promote fire safety and enforce fire safety standards throughout the plant.
Job Responsibilities:
- Responding immediately and safely to emergency calls and requests for assistance
- Performing emergency medical services as an AEMT; minimizing distress and suffering, including giving first aid before ambulance crews arrive
- Attending emergency incidents including fires, accidents, floods, spillages of dangerous substances, etc.
- Performing all phases of fire suppression work, ventilation, overhaul, salvage and clean-up activities at incident scene
- Conducting search and rescue as a member of a team
- Safeguarding their own and other people's personal safety at all times
- Assisting in the performance of periodic Uniform Fire Code inspections of industrial and commercial businesses and places of assembly
- Assisting in the enforcement of the fire prevention codes by following through and documenting violations in need of corrective action
- Responding quickly to unforeseen circumstances as they arise
- Operating and driving a fire department vehicle in compliance with all applicable state and local laws, departmental rules, and regulations
- Maintaining records and logs of work
- Preparing statistical and analytical reports as required
- Taking time to become familiar with roads and buildings around the plant in order to respond to emergency calls with the utmost speed and efficiency
- Inspecting and maintaining the fire engine, rescue squad, and related apparatus
- Assisting in the inspection, maintenance, and testing of portable and fixed fire suppression and extinguishing systems and equipment
- Undertaking drills and physical training and taking part in training on techniques
- Maintaining the level of physical fitness necessary to carry out all the duties of a firefighter
- Other duties as assigned
Job Requirements:
- Minimum H.S. diploma or General Education Degree (GED) required; Associate's degree or higher preferred
- Minimum for 5 years of experience as a Firefighter. Firefighter II certification. EMT, Advanced EMT, or Paramedic; Hazardous material Operations or Hazardous material Technician.
- Possession of a valid Fire Fighter II certificate required
- Possession of an appropriate, valid driver's license required
- Possession of an appropriate, valid C.P.R. certificate required
- Advanced Emergency Medical Technician License required
- Hazardous Material Operations course preferred
- Ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions and communicate effectively with others
- Ability to establish and maintain cooperative relationships with fellow Team Members
- Ability to use the computer to keep simple records and prepare reports
- Possess a strong mechanical aptitude and be skilled in operation of heavy emergency equipment
- Ability to perform heavy manual labor
- Possess safety awareness
- Have good judgment and problem solving skills
