We are currently seeking a Senior Mechanical Integrity Engineer for our site in Charleston, TN.

 

What you will do:

The Sr. Mechanical Integrity Engineer is responsible for the leading and continuously improving the Charleston site Mechanical Integrity Program. The incumbent is responsible for the development, implementation, strategic planning, and technical support of the Mechanical Integrity program including direction and supervision of the site inspection team.  This position is responsible for advising on and monitoring compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local regulations and general industry standards.  The position will report to the Corporate Engineering Manager and will work closely with the site EHSS, Maintenance, and Engineering groups. 

 

  • Develop, implement strategies, and continuously improve the site’s Mechanical Integrity and RBI programs, detailing inspection methods, frequencies of inspections, codes, and standards applicable to the program.
  • Provides direction and support to the Mechanical Integrity and Quality Assurance & Control supervisors, technical support, and work as liaison between site and outside authorities and representatives in the matters of Mechanical; Integrity and inspection
    Oversee and lead the development of  Mechanical Integrity and Quality Assurance teams, ensuring the teams have the necessary resources, skills, and experience to maintain a risk-based inspection process as well as a quality assurance and control that suffices Wacker production hazards.
  • Responsible for ensuring that equipment falling below the acceptable level of risk is mitigated in a timely fashion, consistently communicating findings via metrics and KPIs from inspections to area leaders to identify and prioritize corrective actions through the execution teams, ensuring 100% compliance and defined uptime
  • Support the budgeting processes by monitoring and anticipating OPEX and CAPEX budgets to ensure that scheduled inspections are properly accounted for budgeted
  • Provides technical support, project management support, and guidance to Engineering, Operations and Maintenance for inspections, testing, and repairs of fixed equipment and piping.
  • Manage the MI and QA/QC Programs to ensure and the master list of tanks/vessels, piping and associated equipment, and their inspection frequencies are properly assigned by the execution teams, ensuring that type and the extent of inspections required for equipment and damage mechanisms are the most efficient and accurate for the purpose
  • Communication with and representation of WACKER Charleston to outside authorities in the field of Mechanical integrity (e.g. Tennessee Boiler Board)

 

What we need from you:

 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in an engineering discipline, preferably mechanical
  • 7-10+ years’ experience in fixed equipment inspection in a chemical or petrochemical manufacturing environment
  • 5-7+ years’ experience in management technical teams in the areas of fixed equipment inspection and quality assurance & control in a chemical or petrochemical manufacturing environment
  • NCEES EIT, API 510, 570, or 653 inspector certification; Documented risk-based inspection training or API 580 certification and API 571 is preferred
  • Well-versed in API-510, API-570, API-579, ASTM Specifications, ASME Section VIII Div. 1, ASME B31.3
  • Working knowledge of federal and state regulations affecting piping and fixed equipment including Process Safety Management inspection requirements.
  • Working knowledge of inspections needed based on industry best practices and per API, NBBIC, ASME, DOT, EPA, and OSHA guidelines for all required vessels, storage tanks, and piping systems.
  • Technical knowledge and practical working experience in time and condition-based inspection processes, non-destructive testing (NDT), and piping and vessel defect assessment and repair.
  • Working knowledge of corrosion issues and damage mechanisms occurring in equipment and piping
  • Ability to plan, implement, monitor, and continuously improve a mechanical integrity program encompassing a large number of fixed equipment assets.
  • ASNT NDE Certifications in VT, MT, PT, UT, RT required or planned to achieve.
  • Working knowledge of GE Digital APM-MI (formerly Meridium System), SAP, and SharePoint applications.
  • Ability to review applicable codes and standards to ensure the organization's mechanical integrity program is fully compliant.

  • Drives proactive execution of the MI program to maintain compliance with OSHA’s PSM regulations as well as maintain a high degree of process safety
  • Has strong written and verbal communication skills. Prepares and organizes written presentations, documentation and reports pertaining to the MI program.
  • Experience with Risk-Based Inspection and API RBI Software
  • Experience Working with Inspection Data Management Systems (IDMS)
  • Support the site in upset conditions with MI needs to minimize downtime and ensuring repairs meet standards
  • Maintain and report on Mechanical Integrity key performance indicators (KPIs)
  • Participate in Management of Change (MOCs), Pre-startup Safety Review (PSSRs), Root Cause Analysis (RCA), and audits/assessments as needed/requested.
  • Proactively identifies MI program improvement opportunities through interaction with team members, engineering, maintenance, and operations personnel. Makes recommendations and justifies new tools, work process improvements and capital improvements.
  • Work with engineering capital projects to ensure that proper Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) is completed during fabrication and installation.
  • Generate annual site-specific Mechanical Integrity projected work scopes
  • Track and communicate regulatory changes to ensure compliance with applicable state/federal regulations including statues, regulations, agency letters of interpretation and pertinent industry codes and standards.
  • Review’s inspection reports, updates inspection frequency, and techniques based on results.
  • Analytical evaluation of systems for continued operability
  • Provides technical support, interpretation, and guidance to Management on federal and state codes, regulation, practices, and requirements.
  • Performs other duties assigned by management that fall within the generally expected scope of this position.
