WACKER POLYSILICON is the global leader in the production of polycrystalline hyperpure silicon for the semiconductor and solar solar industries. At our Charleston site, we are currently looking for a(n) Engineer - Process and Facilities - HDK to join our growing team.


The Engineer- Process and Facilities position provides engineering and technical services to Operations and additional service units in order to assure safe operations, regulatory compliance, and to maximize the availability and efficiency of these units. This position performs a variety of mechanical process and facilities engineering work to maintain and continuously improve the performance of multiple chemical production units and related auxiliary systems in the HDK® Reaction and Packaging areas.

Job Responsibilities

  • Support the Engineering Manager to ensure safe operating conditions and regulatory compliance of production units. 
  • Support availability of production units at required capacity and quality 
  • Support process and technology transfer/exchange between Wacker HDK production sites 
  • Coordinate 3rd party service providers
  • Manage and/or support capital invest and expense type projects within area of responsibility
  • Conduct and/or coordinate troubleshooting activities
  • Develop and/or support development of specifications, standards, and codes 
  • Participate in the planning, execution, and project management of system or unit turnarounds
  • Support the maintenance team in the creation planning and execution of ITPM and MRO activities
  • Plan and execute small size investment projects, repair projects, and improvement projects for Maintenance and Operations as project manager
  • Participate in the commissioning of new and modified production units
  • Resolve issues with plant engineering per API standards and OSHA PSM 190.119
  • Responsible for RCRA generation as relating to container and labeling usage, maintenance and storage functions, and regular inspections of RCRA applicable areas



  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering or related engineer field
  • Minimum of 4 years professional experience in the field of plant engineering or reliability
  • Preferred 8 years professional experience in the field of plant engineering or reliability
  • SAP experience preferred
  • Thorough technical knowledge in the field of mechanical process and facilities engineering including a familiarity of relevant regulations, standards, and codes
  • Familiar working with process flow diagrams, process and instrumentation diagrams, pipeline isometrics, and equipment drawings
  • This position requires working in a multi-discipline team with multiple interfaces to internal customers (operations), internal services like EHSS, procurement, and controlling as well as external parties like authorities, suppliers, and contractors
  • Ability to perform and succeed in an environment of schedule and cost pressure 
  • Capability to professionally deal with changing priorities and requirements 
  • Thorough understanding of engineering principles and construction practices
