WACKER POLYSILICON is the global leader in the production of polycrystalline hyperpure silicon for the semiconductor and solar solar industries. At our Charleston site, we are currently looking for a(n) Engineer III/Sr. - DCS to join our growing team.

 

The DCS Engineer is responsible for providing the necessary technical support to the production units in his or her area of responsibility and managing related budgets. The DCS Engineer will support the DCS hardware and software for CHA site (servers, workstations, controllers, controls network, field I/O) that is utilized by the various DCS (e.g. Siemens, Emerson Delta V, and APC).

 

Job Responsibilities

  • Monitor and perform maintenance on control/communication systems (primarily Siemens-based applications).
  • Keep close contact with Operations on a day-to-day basis, providing process area support.
  • Support Operations, Maintenance and Plant Engineering to implement DCS software changes (including graphics optimizations).
  • Manage or support capital invest and expense projects within the Poly area.
  • Forecast and prepare operations leadership for major programming updates, keeping close contact with international counterparts.
  • Perform tuning and optimization utilizing model predictive control in coordination with Operations and Plant Engineering staff.
  • Develop/support development of specifications, standards, and codes (primarily regrading Siemens-based control/communication systems).

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical, Controls, Instrumentation or Chemical Engineering (or related degree with sufficient work experience).
  • 5 years of relevant experience.
  • Thorough technical knowledge in the field of instrumentation, networking, and DCS and SIS automation and controls including relevant regulations, standards, and codes. 
  • Ability to troubleshoot system and process problems in collaboration with Engineering, Maintenance, Operations, contractors, and others to ensure that all aspects of the process control systems and equipment operation are managed. 
  • Experience with the following products/protocols: Siemens hardware and software suites (including PCS7, CFCs, SFCs, PDM, Step 7, TIA Portal), WinCC, Profibus DP and PA Fieldbus architecture and protocols 
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Capability to professionally deal with changing priorities and requirements.
  • Team player attitude.
  • Willingness and ability to work off-hours as business needs dictate and to be on-call after-hours and weekends when needed (typically one week every 4-6 weeks).
  • Must be physically fit to wear an air respirator if necessary.
