WACKER POLYSILICON is the global leader in the production of polycrystalline hyperpure silicon for the semiconductor and solar solar industries. At our Charleston site, we are currently looking for a Director, Environmental Health, Safety, Security and Emergency Management to join our growing team.

 

This position reports to the Charleston Site Leader.  Leads site to attain and sustain highest level of culture and performance for both occupational safety and process safety.  Directs environmental compliance as well as environmental sustainability to meet company expectations.  Responsible for leading, coordinating, developing, and maintaining an effective Integrated Management System for Charleston EHSS with focus upon policy, programs, and procedures, to ensure compliance with Federal, State, and local codes and regulations and WACKER requirements.  Collaborate with site operations to identify opportunities and implement improvements that reduce incidents and secure business.  Support site operations through development of EHSS procedures, policies, and programs and support implementation and auditing.  Monitor new and revised regulations, codes, industry and professional standards, internal policies, provide recommendations and lead the implementation of improvements.  This position also will manage and direct site Fire department with the expertise to evaluate, coordinate and administer emergency preparations related to onsite operations and impact of facility based upon local, regional and national requirements.

 

Job Responsibilities:

  • Ensure EHSS compliance with all local, State and Federal codes and regulations as well as all WACKER internal requirements. Monitor new and revised regulations, codes, industry and professional standards, and internal policies; effectively communicate changes, recommend necessary actions, and support implementation.  Foster positive relations with government agencies (TDEC, TOSHA, TSFMO, Bradley County, other).  Ensure regulatory permits are obtained as required and operation in compliance.
  • Drive EHSS to attain and maintain highest levels of EHSS culture and performance that may include, but not necessarily limited to, Zero Accident Program, Wacker Safety Plus, and EHSS IT (e.g., SPIRIT).  Provide coordination, training, and management support to Charleston departments in the implementation of these programs.   
  • Provide Emergency and incident management to minimize impact to Wacker, employees, and community.  Lead and manage Wacker Fire Department to provide 24/7 response and medical treatment as necessary. Ensure appropriate incident response, investigation, corrective action, and follow up. 
  • Develop, maintain, and continuously improve EHSS programs to achieve site objectives.  Provide EHSS support for new processes and/or equipment installations.  Promote zero accident/incident culture through frequent presence in the field. 
  • Lead and support internal and external audits/inspections/customer visits.
  • Collaborate with NCA regional and global WACKER EHSS & IMS functions.  Ensure cross-site communication of relevant incidents, programs, initiatives.  Evaluate and implement best practices.
  • Manage operating costs within budget.

 

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Occupational Safety and Health, Environmental Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or Chemistry, Physics, or other technical degree; Master's preferred
  • Combination of BS and MS in Technical field (Engineering, Chemistry, Physics, Occupational Safety and Health) and Environmental/Safety and EHSS certification(s)
  • Minimum of 10 years chemical manufacturing experience, min 5 in a PSM covered process.
  • Minimum of 10 years of leadership experience and proven experience managing teams of 10+.
  • 5+ years' experience in the development, implementation, and management of EHSS programs.
  • 5+ years in the field of fire service, emergency medical technician or chemical industries
  • Strong leadership, interpersonal and problem solving skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently or with groups of people / teams in a complex changing environment
  • Proficiency in EHSS regulations & compliance
  • Hazard analysis/risk assessment capability
  • Excellent verbal and written communication with a proven background in producing quality metrics reports
  • Analytical and research capabilities. Ability to research and properly apply information without direct supervision.
  • Written and verbal communication and listening skills, including excellent persuasive skills
  • Proficient computer skills including MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and SAP, including the ability to quickly learn third party software
