WACKER SILICONES is one of the world’s biggest silicone manufacturers with silicone-based system solutions and over 3,000 different products. At our Charleston site, we are currently looking for a(n) ​Control Systems Specialist (DCS)​ to join our growing team.

 

The Control Sytems Specialist is responsible for providing the necessary technical support to the production units in his area of responsibility and managing related budgets. The Control Systems Specialist will support the DCS hardware and software for CHA site (servers, workstations, controllers, controls network, field I/O) that is utilized by the various DCS (e.g. Siemens, Emerson Delta V, and APC).

 

Job Responsibilities

  • Monitor and perform maintenance on controls/communication systems (primarily Siemens-based applications)
  • Keep close contact with Operations on a day-to-day basis, providing process area support
  • Support Operations, Maintenance and Plant Engineering to implement DCS software changes (including graphics optimizations)
  • Maintain system hardware and software by implementing patches and hotfixes as recommended by vendors; act as primary interface with vendors for repair/recall notifications
  • Perform and maintain regular backup of servers and similar systems
  • Perform tuning and optimization utilizing model predictive control in coordination with Operations and Plant Engineering staff
  • Support PI and OSMAR installations for the plant

 

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent with additional chemical plant training and/or certifications
  • 3 years related experience 
  • Strong background in operation of industrial processes (preferably chemical industry)
  • Experience in the development and/or operation of large control systems
  • Experience programming DCS and PLC systems (primarily Siemens systems)
  • Capability to professionally deal with changing priorities and requirements
  • Team player attitude
  • Willingness and ability to work off-hours as business needs dictate and to be on-call after-hours and weekends when needed (typically one week every 4-6 weeks)
  • Must be physically fit to wear an air respirator if necessary
  • Preferred background in Profibus and Modbus communication protocols
