What you will do:

The Control Systems Engineer is responsible for providing technical leadership for process control systems at WACKER sites across the US region.  This role will guide and support responsible team members at each site in developing and implementing control system lifecycle plans and system-level administration tasks to ensure WACKER standards and directives are implemented consistently across the region. This position reports to the Engineering Manager, Process Control & Digital Engineering Applications

  • Subject matter expert for control system hardware and software topics for regional relevant suppliers.  Works with responsible site engineering teams to develop and implement long-term lifecycle plans to ensure site control systems are maintained maintain highest levels of availability and security to meet site, region, and business division goals.
  • Develop and implement procedures for required system administration within the control system architecture.  This includes active implementation and maintenance across the region for supplier system security manuals and WACKER OT Security directive actions.  Tasks such as performing supplier firmware updates, system software patches, Microsoft Windows updates, malware prevention software, system backup/recovery tasks are essential functions for this role
  • Provides escalation support for site engineering and maintenance teams to enhance internal localized support for control system and OT security issues.  Ensures expedited escalation to internal experts and/or suppliers for critical system issues to minimize production or availability loss.   Additional provide introductory training for new engineering and maintenance team members as needed.
  • Lead control system audits and assessments across region to ensure systems are maintained to supplier guidelines and WACKER internal Directive requirements.
  • Maintain Process Control Network firewalls across region to ensure control systems are secure.  Monitor firewall traffic to quickly detect and mitigate any unusual attempts to breech process networks.
  • Partner with project engineering teams to ensure WACKER control system standards and requirements are efficiently implemented for new investments and operational improvement projects.

 

What we need from you:

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemical, Electrical, or Computer Engineering
  • Professional engineering experience working with control systems in PSM covered chemical facilities is required; 7+ years’ experience preferred.
  • Experience with industrial process control and safety systems (Siemens, DeltaV, Allen Bradley PLC’s and Plant PAX, etc).  Willingness to cross-train on multiple platforms.
  • High level of proficiency with SAP or other inventory management software
  • Background in a chemical manufacturing or engineering environment in a project engineer or plant engineer role supporting control systems
  • Experience utilizing and/or maintaining Engineering tool/object-oriented database (preferably COMOS) in basic engineering, and/or as-built status
  • Experience in Process Safety Management (PSM) programs
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office products such as Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and SharePoint
  • Background in a chemical manufacturing or engineering environment in a project engineer or plant engineer role supporting control systems
  • Highly motivated, self-directed, and able to work independently as well as part of a team
  • Work in a fast-paced and deadline driven environment while staying focused
  • Solid organizational skills with the ability to prioritize, multi-task and troubleshoot.  Effective planning and time management is vital to this role.
  • Strong interpersonal, written & verbal communication, and writing skills.
  • Ability to work well with others and comfortable with asking challenging questions.
  • Problem-solving aptitude.
  • Ability to self-teach and seek out other resources to create solutions in undefined areas.
