WACKER POLYSILICON is the global leader in the production of polycrystalline hyperpure silicon for the semiconductor and solar solar industries. At our Charleston site, we are currently looking for a(n) Chemical Operator Trainer to join our growing team.

 

The Chemical Operator Trainer will develop and execute the “basic training” program for Chemical Operators at the Charleston site and coordinate with site HR and individual Department Managers to ensure completion of training objectives and seamless transition during initial training phases for new chemical operators: (New Hire Orientation to Basic Training to OJT training within departments).  The Chemical Operator Trainer will also support other operations training personnel in the execution of common training topics and programs, support Operations in refresher training of select topics as well as support Operations with training of Chemical Operator Trade Interns.

 

Job Responsibilities:

  • Conduct hands on training with new Chemical Operators on safety and basic operational topics in the plant
  • Conduct theoretical/in classroom training with new Chemical Operators on safety and basic operational topics
  • Conduct refresher training with existing Chemical Operators on select topics
  • Develop and maintain training materials for Chemical Operator Basic Training Program
  • Conduct periodic follow-ups with trainees to ensure department onboarding went smoothly.  Relay feedback to Supervisor as necessary.   Incorporate any necessary feedback back into training program
  • Maintain certifications to train on site topics such as: Powered Industrial Truck, Aerial Lift, Overhead Crane, etc… 
  • Maintain strong focus for safety and quality in all aspects of daily work.  Escalate observed issues and/or opportunities to improve to Operations Management as appropriate
  • Documented training conducted correctly and provide training records to department management & training coordinator
  • Assist with training of Chemical Operator Interns
  • Assist in development and delivery of ad hoc training for safety, quality, or operations topics as needed at the request of production management in response to urgent issues, incidents, or quality complaints
  • Complete “Train the trainer” and any other skill development activities which are identified
  • Execute assigned process improvement activities within area of expertise and as assigned
  • Maintain housekeeping within assigned areas of responsibility
  • Manage and maintain Operations Hands on Training room in D116 in collaboration with other trainers within P-P3-QCP work group.  Coordinate with building owner on issues with facilities
  • Support other trainers in the P-P3-QCP work group as needed
  • Work a standard first shift schedule with flexibility to work off-shifts when needed to conduct training as required.  Overtime may be required and must be approved in advance by Supervision
  • Other duties as assigned

 

Job Requirements:

  • ​​​​​​​Associates degree in technical or mathematical field or completion of Chemical Operator program at Chattanooga State Community College or equivalent program required  
  • 2+ years’ experience in Chemical Operator or related role with experience as hands on trainer in a chemical plant environment 
  • Preferred: 5+ years’ experience in Chemical Operator or related role with experience as hands on trainer in a chemical plant environment
  • Must possess a strong sense of ownership for this program and passion for training and education of others
  • Safety focused – strong advocate for and well-practiced with, safety processes (LOTO, SWP, hot work, handling of chemicals, first line break, inspection rounds, etc…)
  • Good understanding of the overall site production process and common plant equipment
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.   Must be able to effectively communicate with multiple levels of the organization
  • Motivated - Self Starter
  • Strong organizational/coordination skills and attention to detail
  • Communicate effectively with team members via email, telephone, and radio
  • Possess valid driver’s license (needed to operate equipment onsite
  • Experienced with industrial equipment. Able to acquire and maintain site trainer certification for topics of Powered Industrial Trucks, Aerial Lifts, Overhead Crane, etc…
  • Proficient in the use of hand tools
  • Proficient with Microsoft office applications (e.g. PowerPoint, Word, etc…)
  • Travel < 5%
  • Bilingual English/Spanish a plus but not required
