KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Perform production duties with an emphasis on safety.
- Report production performance to supervisor and provide feedback to technical staff.
- Monitor and interpret DCS screens, which have diverse processes running simultaneously.
- Ability to monitor and prioritize responses to issues in multiple places.
- Respond to alarms wearing full protective gear.
- Interact with databases and computer software; document all operational steps in an electronic log book; input downtime information into downtime tracking system.
- Observe/differentiate between standard conditions and deviations from normal (e.g. unusual sounds, smells, trends in DCS, etc.)
- Work with hand tools - change filters, gaskets, valves, switch spectacle blinds, etc.
- Perform other minor maintenance tasks and repairs.
- Support maintenance crew.
- Read and understand P&ID's.
- Perform regular production duties which include; monitoring, controlling, and documenting production flow and processing steps.
- Use computers and process control systems for machine and plant control data retrieval and processing, as well as for documentation purposes, for obtaining information and for logistical and organizational purposes.
- Ensure environmentally compatible disposal and recycling of waste.
- Frequently communicate between control rooms, field operations, and other departments.
- Contact appropriate personnel when additional expertise is required.
- Identify opportunities to improve throughput and uptime.
- Follow company policies regarding health and environmental protection, work safety, plant safety, quality etc.
- Assist with commissioning activities and documentation as necessary.
- Other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED
- Have proven technical and mechanical aptitude and basic computer skills.
- Be a team player with the desire to lead and coach others.
- Teamwork skills with safety and environmental consciousness required.
- Ability for effective communication under pressure (face-to-face, radio/phone, computer)
- Be willing to work any shift (including 12-hour shifts and/or rotating shifts) necessary to support a 24/7 operation.
- Be willing to work overtime (including weekends and holidays) if necessary.
- Must pass pre-employment testing.
REQUIRED YEARS OF EXPERIENCE: YEARS OF EXPERIENCE:
- 5+ years of experience in a technical/production environment preferred.
- 2+ years of chemical operator experience.
REQUIRED EDUCATION (INCLUDING CERTIFICATIONS, ETC.):
- Have a minimum High School diploma or GED.
PREFERRED EDUCATION (INCLUDING PREFERRED FIELDS OF STUDY, CERTIFICATIONS, ETC.):
- Associate's degree in a technical or mathematical field preferred.
- Preferred completion of the Chemical Operator program at Chattanooga State Community College with a GPA of 3.0 or higher.
