WACKER POLYSILICON is the global leader in the production of polycrystalline hyperpure silicon for the semiconductor and solar solar industries.
At our Charleston site, we are currently looking for a(n) Chemical Operator - Physical Analytics to be a part of our growing team.

 

 

The Chemical Operator in Physical Analytics will work a particular shift using computers and process control systems as part of the distributed control system (DCS) to safely monitor, control, and document production at the Charleston plant site.  In addition, they will perform walkarounds to check safety status, environmental aspects, and to do the entire manual tasks necessary for steady and safe operations.  This position will cooperate with other qualified staff in serving, troubleshooting, and preventative maintenance at the plant.  As a Chemical Operator, you may be working with hazardous materials and will be expected to follow company policies regarding health and environmental protection, work safety, plant safety, and quality.

 

Job Responsibilities:

  • Perform production duties                             
  • Report production performance to supervisor and provide feedback to technical staff
  • Follow company policies
  • Operate production equipment: test deposition reactor, float sonar, measurement equipment, etching booth, etc…
  • Read, monitor DCS (process control system)
  • Check piping
  • Change liquid Nitrogen and Helium dewars
  • Ability to work safely and independently or as a team
  • Support alarms wearing full protective gear
  • Interact with databases and computer software; Will enter and retrieve data, identify trends, and emergency responses
  • Observe/differentiate between standard conditions and deviations from normal (e.g. unusual sounds, smells, etc.)
  • Perform regular duties which include; monitoring, controlling, and documenting production flow and processing steps
  • Plan, check, and document the steps necessary for the production and processing of different production/materials                                      
  • Cooperate with the other qualified staff in scheduling and coordinating servicing, troubleshooting, and preventative maintenance
  • Use computers and process control systems for machine and plant control data retrieval and processing, as well as for documentation purposes, for obtaining information and for logistical and organizational purposes
  • Ensure environmentally compatible disposal and recycling of waste
  • Frequent communication between control room, field operations, and other departments
  • Contact appropriate personnel when additional expertise is required
  • Document all operational steps in an electronic log book    
  • Identify opportunities to improve throughput and uptime
  • Report on production issues, provide feedback to technical staff
  • Follow company policies regarding health and environmental protection, work safety, plant safety, and quality
  • Responsible for RCRA generation as relating to container and labeling usage, maintenance and storage functions, and regular inspections of RCRA applicable areas.  
  • Other duties as assigned

 

Job Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Associate's Degree in a technical or mathematical field preferred
  • Manufacturing or technical experience preferred
  • Chemical experience preferred
  • Have proven technical and mechanical aptitude and basic computer skills
  • Be a team player with the desire to lead and coach others (preferred candidates will have prior supervisory experience)
  • Safety, detail, and quality oriented
  • Teamwork skills with safety and environmental consciousness required
  • Good communication skills required; frequent communication between lab, control room, field operations and other departments
  • Be able to work any shift (including 12-hour shifts and/or rotating shifts) necessary to support a 24/7 operation
  • Be able to work overtime (including weekends and holidays) if necessary
  • Must pass pre-employment testing
