WACKER POLYSILICON is the global leader in the production of polycrystalline hyperpure silicon for the semiconductor and solar solar industries.
At our Charleston site, we are currently looking for a(n) Chemical Operator (SPOT) to be a part of our growing team.

 

 

The primary responsibility of this position is to assist all operational areas with various mechanical jobs, manufacture and inspection of intermediates, along with other assigned tasks. By ensuring tasks are completed with a focus on safety, high quality workmanship, and timely equipment turnaround, this position will be key in our cost savings initiative.

 

Job Responsibilities:

  • Walk down EIP lock outs required for assigned task
  • Perform troubleshooting tasks as necessary
  • Assembly/ Disassembly of Converter internals, electrodes, graphite parts, attached piping and #converter shells
  • Perform Base plate revisions and related tasks in Deposition
  • Responsible for inventory of base plate consumables 
  • Perform Vertical condenser and piping exchange, main filter work and related tasks in CSR
  • Hydro Cyclone, filter and strainer exchange, Buffer tank exchange, Column revision support and related activites in DITF
  • Manufacturing and repair of Converter insulation
  • Cleaning and preparation of Converter parts for assembly
  • Cleaning of electrodes and ceramic parts 
  • Responsible for inventory of insulation and required supplies in Graphite winding
  • Effectively transition between daily job tasks 
  • Assist with Converter part tests if necessary
  • Perform minor E&IC checks 
  • Communicate effectively with team members via telephone, radio, verbal and in written 
  • Prepare Converter internal waste material for disposal according to applicable procedures and regulations
  • Perform minor repairs as needed in all departments
  • Support other Team Members in areas of safety and quality
  • Execute assigned process improvement activities within team with a focus on improving efficiency, reducing cost and increasing customer satisfaction
  • Work with cross-functional teams to achieve targeted results as assigned by department leadership
  • Housekeeping duties 
  • Be available for occasional 12h shift and weekend on call duty in accordance with production needs
  • Perform other duties as assigned

 

Job Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • 1+ year experience in a chemical manufacturing environment or equivalent education
  • Chemical manufacturing experience
  • Currently enrolled in the Wacker Chemical Operator Development Program.  Successful completion of the program is required in order to remain in the position and pay grade
  • Must possess a valid driver's license 
  • Able to obtain site license for powered industrial truck, crane operation and scaffolding certification
  • Proficient with use of hand tools, electrical tools and measuring devices 
  • Read mechanical prints, electrical drawings, and piping & instrumentation drawings (P&IDs) 
  • Effective writing and verbal skills with the ability to effectively communicate  
  • Understanding of mechanical and electrical systems and associated instrumentation 
  • Work as a member of a cross-functional technical team to troubleshoot and improve systems 
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Work in fall protection gear for extended periods
