At our Charleston site, we are currently looking for a(n) Chemical Operator (Chemical Support Specialist) to be a part of our growing team.

 

 

This position is responsible for performing routine maintenance on analytical instrumentation and laboratory equipment.  In addition, team member will provide technical support for process improvements, special sample analysis and equipment troubleshooting.  There will be additional task assigned supporting Technical Specialist with building related systems.  This position will provide departmental coverage for physical analytics chemical operators due to planned and unplanned absences.This position is responsible for performing routine maintenance on analytical instrumentation and laboratory equipment.  In addition, team member will provide technical support for process improvements, special sample analysis and equipment troubleshooting.  There will be additional task assigned supporting Technical Specialist with building related systems.  This position will provide departmental coverage for physical analytics chemical operators due to planned and unplanned absences.

 

Job Responsibilities:

 

  • Perform equipment maintenance including preventative maintenance, this includes troubleshooting equipment and diagnosing issues.  Responsible for preparing equipment for work i.e. LOTO, first line breaks and energy isolation plans.  Assist Technical Specialist with the daily equipment inspections to extend service life of equipment
  • Provide support to Analytics building systems (water, HVAC, steam network, drainage systems)
  • Perform building, car seal inspections and pipe rack walk throughs
  • Provide planned and unplanned absentee coverage for day light shift operations
  • Other duties as assigned

 

Job Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or GED; Associate's degree in a technical or mathematical field preferred
  • 2+ years' experience in a chemical or technical field
  • Completion of the Chemical Operator program at Chattanooga State preferred
  • Mechanical maintenance experience is preferred
  • Have proven technical and mechanical aptitude and basic computer skills
  • Teamwork skills with safety and evnrionmental consciousness required
  • Work on shift, as needed, to provide vacation and absence relief (day shifts only)
  • Good communication skills required
  • Be able to work overtime (including weekends and holidays) if necessary
  • Familiarity with piping and instrumentation diagrams
  • Safety detail, and quality oriented
  • Must be able to be frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts, electrical equipment mechanical equipment and vibration
  • This position will be required to work at multiple work stations
  • Protective equipment must be worn in the performance of some duties (hearing protection, dust masks, respirators, gloves)
  • Ability to wear PPE that required medical clearance.  Standard PPE includes:  Safety shoes (e.g. steel toe/static dissipating), safety glasses, work gloves, hearing protection, hardhat, and required univorm (fire resistant/chemical protective/static dissipating).  Additional PPE includes:  safety googles, acid suits, rubber boots, dust mask, full-face respirator and chemical protective gloves
  • Pacemakers, metal implants, and other similar medical devices are not permitted due to the surrounding electrical equipment
  • Able to read DCS and see/differentiate colors
  • Able to respond to alarms and commands from radios and relay them if necessary
  • Exposure to outdoor / incldement weather (first break work/field inspection)
  • Bend, crawl, crouch, lift up to 50 lbs., reach, kneel, ascend up to 5 flights of stairs occasionally carrying equipment, ascend ladders up to 40 ft. to inspect equipment, and descend ladders up to 50 ft. in emergency situations
  • Potential exposure to chemicals; able to work, i.e. climb or operate valves, in full protective gear for the first breaks, maintenance, sampling, etc.
