We are currently seeking a CAD Designer in our Engineering Processes and Services team for our site in Charleston, TN.


What you will do:

The CAD Designer provides drafting support to process design, new equipment installation, and building modifications as well as standard as-built documentation support to plant engineering & maintenance functions within a large chemical manufacturing facility to maintain the site’s plant layout & 3D Model.  Engineering discipline supported is primarily piping, but may include civil, structural, architectural, electrical, instrumentation and process equipment.  This position works with a multi-discipline team and will have contact with engineering groups and IT as well as external engineering firms, contractors, and suppliers. The primarily used CAD tool in this position is E3D. The use of other tools such as COMOS, Speedikon, MicroStation, or AutoCAD depends on assignments and department needs.


The position reports to the Engineering Processes & Services Manager for work assignment and prioritization of work. The location of this position is in Charleston, TN.  However, business travel to WACKER sites in Burghausen, Germany and to other US sites may be required if deemed necessary to become familiar with CAD standards, project specifications, WACKER tools and processes, and to integrate within the WACKER team as well as provide project specific support.


  • Primarily revise & prepare 3-D models in Aveva E3D software tool.
  • Prepare and revise computer generated 2-D engineering drawings and 3-D models according to established standards and procedures in software’s such as E3D, COMOS, AutoCAD, MicroStation, and Speedikon systems.
  • Create and revise equipment layout, piping, electrical & instrumentation, mechanical, civil, structural, & architectural drawings & models.
  • Creates and revises drawings and models from sketches, plans, and written & verbal instructions.
  • Utilize redline system and verify all associated items are updated throughout the drawing set.
  • Interface and communicate with project engineers, plant engineers, engineering contractors, other designers, and assembly/installation staff as required.
  • Provides input regarding company graphics standards and procedures.  Support development and documentation of design standards, user guides, and procedures to create uniform drawings and documentation.
  • Perform engineering support tasks including plotting drawings, filing originals, creating PDF’s, and occasional plant/site visits to obtain as-built information.
  • Test updates or new version of CAD/CAE tools for backward compatibility and new functionality.
  • Other tasks and duties as assigned to support engineering and maintenance groups


What we need from you:

  • Associates or bachelor’s degree in a field of Engineering, Computer aided drafting/design or related field or equivalent work experience
  • Proficient with Aveva E3D modeling software
  • Handle drafting assignments under minimal supervision
  • Experience in at least 2 of these software’s (AutoCAD, MicroStation, Speedikon, COMOS or 3D model systems)
  • Familiar with principles and procedures of project engineering practices and project management
  • Strong and effective communication skills in English (oral and writing)
  • Multi-tasking ability
  • Ability to professionally deal with changing priorities and requirements in a fast-paced environment
  • Basic user of Microsoft WORD, EXCEL and POWERPOINT
  • 3-5 years of professional experience working with 2 or more of these CAD software’s: AutoCAD, MicroStation, Speedikon, COMOS or E3D Software.  Preferably in an engineering, procurement and construction projects, and/or large chemical manufacturing facility preferred with multiple disciplines (e.g. CSA, EIC, or Process). 
  • Travel (domestic and international) may be 10-20% depending on the project and business requirements
  • The work environment is primarily office with desk, computer, monitors, mouse, keyboard.  Project and manufacturing site walk-throughs will be required.
  • Physical requirements include sitting, walking, standing, speaking, hearing, and carrying less than 20 lbs.
