WACKER POLYMERS is the global technology leader in the development and production of redispersible powders, dispersions solid resins, powder binders and surface coating resins. At our Calvert City site, we are currently looking for a Maintenance Manager to join our growing team.


Job Responsibilities

This position is responsible for managing plant maintenance and reliability activities at Calvert City for both Dispersions and Powders operations.  The incumbent introduces maintenance improvements to achieve production targets in the areas of on-stream, cycle times, quality, waste reduction, and operating costs.  Equipment integrity and reliability improvement is of utmost importance in this position.  This position will not have direct budgeting responsibilities, but works with Plant Engineering on establishing budgets and monitoring spending.

  • Monitor and improve performance of overall maintenance function.  Implement mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation best practices.  Increase amount of work completed by improving department efficiency.  Monitor call-in data, recommend improvements, and ensure resources are available during the off-shift.
  • Identify opportunities for productivity and cost savings.  Direct continuous improvement efforts of Maintenance organization.
  • Mechanical integrity and reliability – Interface with operations personnel to resolve daily production issues caused by equipment failures.  Work with Plant Engineering to resolve any long term or repeat issues.
  • Safety – Actively participate and support Wacker safety programs and PPE requirements, and enforce plant safety rules and good housekeeping measures.
  • Work with Operations and Plant Engineering on yearly shutdown planning.  Plan maintenance work and schedules in advance.  Minimize downtime while ensuring that all necessary work is completed.
  • Support Plant Engineering to define the yearly maintenance budget.  Monitor maintenance spending closely to ensure efficient use of financial resources.  Ensures work orders and labor hours are charged to the correct budgets (CAPEX versus maintenance budget).
  • Supervise Plant Mechanical Maintenance, Plant E&I Maintenance, and Asset Reliability Engineering. Supervise all maintenance contractors needed to complete work that requires a specialization or cannot be completed by existing staff.  Work with bargaining unit personnel to resolve any disputes or issues associated with the plant labor agreement.


  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field required.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in operations, maintenance/ project engineering..
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in chemical manufacturing
  • Experience working in a Polymers plant operations preferred.


  • Polymer processing expertise
  • Knowledge of maintenance best practices in the chemical industry
  • Basic knowledge of predictive and preventative maintenance programs
  • Basic knowledge of computerized maintenance management systems
  • Understanding and expertise in OSHA PSM regulations
  • Knowledge of equipment operation and maintenance practices
  • SAP interface – project and maintenance transactions
  • Budget planning and cost tracking
  • Organization and planning
  • Knowledge of Six Sigma methodologies
  • Ability to communicate to all levels of organization
  • Leadership and supervisory skills
  • Ability to learn key work processes quickly
