At our site in Ann Arbor, we are currently looking for a Technical Manager in our Automotive segment to join our growing team. This position will proactively support the business by administering and promoting the segment’s commercial product portfolio for traditional and battery electric vehicle applications. And, as the regional technical expert working closely with sales and marketing to develop and scale future customer product and service solutions. Domestic and International Travel is expected (during non-pandemic) up to 25%.
Job Responsibilities
- Product Management - investigate, assemble, advise, and furnish technical commercial product information for the automotive segment by collaborating with global counterparts, technical development teams, chemists, sales, marketing, supply chain, operations, EHS, and R&D. Become the regional expert and key contributor for commercial technical product and solution knowledge. Attend strategic customer meetings, trade shows, and host webinars in support of the sales and marketing team. Assemble technical presentations and author white papers. Provide in depth technical consultations and troubleshooting both internally and externally. Be a visible, technical champion for battery electric vehicle applications
- Regional commercialization and technology administration-manage, direct, document, and execute the regional commercialization of new and transferred Wacker products
- Regional Automotive Technology Roadmap Administration—establish and document the regional Automotive technology roadmap by collaborating with global counterparts, technical development teams, sales, business development, marketing, supply chain, EHS, and manufacturing. Identify gaps in fulfilling regional needs, leverage strengths and define new product roadmap to meet requirements. Collaborate with Global technology Management to harmonize with Global Tech roadmap and product development priorities
- Technical Service Administration & Customer Engagement --Lead by influence to identify, implement, and execute project goals for strategic customer development projects. Become the regional expert and key contributor for compliance of Wacker global product development processes. Monitor, maintain, and provide expert input for process enhancements, train others, and own the overall success of the automotive technical service portfolio. Develop and own standard templates for data and testing and reporting to create regional assets
Job Qualifications
- Bachelor’s in Science, Engineering or related field
- Master’s in Chemistry/ Polymer Science (desired), Doctorate (preferred)
- 5 years minimum combined experience including Technical Service, R&D, Engineering, Product Management
- 2 years minimum in chemistry role
- Experience in Automotive Materials Science
- In depth understanding of ASTM and like testing methods
- Proficiency in CRM, PowerPoint, Excel, Word, Outlook, SAP, and Web Meeting Platforms
- Experience and judgement to plan and accomplish goals that are aligned with the business needs
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to influence others in the organization
- Self-starter who can work independently while working in the larger team
- Operates with a fundamental awareness of safe practice in a lab environment
