WACKER SILICONES is one of the world’s biggest silicone manufacturers with silicone-based system solutions and over 3,000 different products. At our Adrian site, we are currently looking for a ​Technical Manager - Decorative Coatings​ to join our growing team.

 

Job Responsibilities

This position is responsible to lead and develop a team of technical members to develop solutions and support  customer product development, technical service collaboration with sales and marketing teams to achieve business team objectives for Decorative Coatings market segment.

  • Evaluates and resolves technical topics from design and planning to production and quality initiatives. 
  • Manages projects plans, budgets, reports and contributes to white papers and makes internal and external presentations. 
  • Accountable for all aspects of safely operating a technical area.
  • Gathers and analyzes relevant performance data of own and competitive products. 
  • May act as Project Leader for Global Development Projects.
  • Maintain Chemist of Record responsibilities for a portfolio of products.    
  • Responsible to lead and manage all aspects of a small group of technical employees including hiring, performance reviews, training, developing, mentoring, etc. through a professional presence and high employee engagement.
  • By using a broad degree of creativity, support the implementation of product and marketing strategies for the business team that will lead to new product developments and applications. 
  • Drive development of technology roadmaps and product portfolios that positions Wacker to be a leading player in the Decorative Coatings market segment.
  • Visit customers regularly to support sales with discovery process and presenting results. Actively lead customer needs and innovation meetings as well as researching the industry developments to identify new opportunities. 
  • Develop and manage Wacker Academy events particularly for the Decorative Coatings Market
  • Manage the exchange of information and activities using best practice which includes but not limited to Electronic Lab Notebook (ELN), SAP, Excel, PPT, and Word).
  • Document activities using Product Modification Activity (PMA), Project System Innovation (PSI) Charter Forms (PCF; ICF) and Opportunity Management with customer relationship tool (like SalesForce).
  • Develop intellectual property related to new products and / or applications, drive for related patent filings

 

 

Qualifications

 

  • Master’s degree in Chemistry, Polymer Science or closely related field required.
  • Minimum 5 years  of experience in a similar role required.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience as a Supervisor required.
  • High understanding and implementation of all safety requirements and lab organization in a formulating chemistry and application testing laboratory setting.
  • Supervisory and team leadership experience with lab personnel
  • Formulating and application development within Coatings Industry (silicone coatings preferred)
  • Diligence in Project Management
  • Technical Service experience at customers
  • Experience / proven successes with product development and project management, showing leadership in proposing and develop ideas / solutions to expand our business
  • High level communication skills (verbal and written) - written skills demonstrated by technical publications, industry presentations and patents
  • Ability to support value propositions with supporting technical data
  • Ability to work carefully within the requirements of an Integrated Management System
  • Understanding of how to transfer products from lab to production equipment
