At our site in Ann Arbor, we are currently looking for a ​Sr. Director, Shared Services​ to join our growing team.


Job Responsibilities

Responsible for leading the HR Centers of Excellence for compensation, benefits, leaves and payroll for all WCC (and subsidiary) US sites, assuring appropriate support levels while maintaining/improving operational efficiencies.  This hands-on role also monitors the US legal environment to assure HR compliance, and oversees the development and monitoring of HR metrics and organizational dashboards. Assists with team relations matters and other HR projects as needed.

  • Maintain highest level of regulatory knowledge to identify potential risks and assure compliance with the legal/reporting requirements and internal controls affecting HR (employment; 401(k), pension, welfare and non-qualified executive benefits; relocation; payroll/compensation) for Wacker Chemical Corporation and its subsidiaries.  Manage and negotiate with vendors (actuaries, legal consultants, investment advisors, broker, etc
  • Assure accurate and timely preparation of pension calculations and legally-required compliance reporting (PPACA, EEO, AA, VETS, 5500’s, SPD’s and SAR’s, etc.). for all WCC US sites.   Act as Plan Administrator for all US health, welfare and Qualified/NonQualified plans, insuring good plan governance and interpreting and resolving highly complex and sensitive issues.  Act as HIPAA Privacy Officer.
  • Oversee the design, administration and communication of cost-effective and efficient benefit programs (and processes) that maintain and improve the company’s ability to attract and retain key talent.  Guide management team to resolve challenging compensation matters.
  • Design, implement, and manage US compensation programs, including total compensation structure, job grading and career lattice alignment, competitive surveys, regulatory compliance, communication and administration. 
  • Oversee decentralized multi-state payroll function (including shadow and inpat/expat payrolls), ensuring payroll accuracy, internal controls, tax and regulatory compliance.  Handle internal/external auditor relationships and vendor selection/management, employee communication, and payroll system maintenance.
  • Conduct  US-wide HR audits for compliance with various laws, regulations and policies and coach HR team on issues/compliance improvements.   Keep abreast of legal requirements and periodically review/update/communicate HR policies, Team Member Handbook, programs and practices for regulatory compliance
  • Evaluate, manage and oversee maintenance of HR-IT needs to support company growth (e.g., payroll, benefits, EPF); train and partner with US HR staff and/or HR-IT-Germany to implement.  Serve as a member of global project teams as needed.
  • Provide strategic and tactical direction to US HR Staff, and provide subject matter expert advice and direction regarding HR policies and programs, benefits, and general HR procedures/compliance.  Participate in other HR activities as assigned by VP.  Act as Deputy of VP HR & Corporate Services in VP’s absence.


  • Bachelor degree in Human Resources or related field, with 10+ years of broad HR experience, including thorough knowledge of the principles, concepts and practices of the HR function, with focus on the legal, compliance and administrative aspects of employment, pension, welfare benefits, compensation, relocation, multi-state and inpat/expat payroll.       
  • Cross-cultural experience gained from working in a culturally diverse environments; experience working in an internal organization is a plus. 
  • Demonstrated experience in designing and implementing compensation and benefit programs for US populations (union and non-union).
  • Direct experience providing consultative HR support of US employment laws.
  • Strong leadership and project management skills, including the ability to build and manage effective internal and external relationships.  Ability to apply discretion and maintain confidentiality.  Solid computer skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint); ADP Workforce Now (including Time Management, Payroll and Benefits modules) or equivalent; SAP or equivalent.  Strong knowledge of existing and emerging regulatory, compensation and employee benefit issues.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills; strong analysis and problem-solving skills; ability to communicate in a way that is appropriate for the audience; ability to influence and confront others; must practice and promote integrity and ethical behavior and have the ability to build trust.  Must carefully balance company and plan participant interests.
