At our Ann Arbor Innovation Center, we are currently looking for a new R&D Technical Manager as we grow our R&D team

Job Responsibilities

• Scientist role is responsible to develop, synthesize, analyze, and test new materials and formulations towards WACKER’s sustainability goals within a global team environment.
• Scientist will advance state of the art materials and formulations, generating fundamental knowledge to solve technical challenges.

• Independently contribute to interdisciplinary R&D projects for the target market Personal Care, E-mobility, and Automotive with a focus on sustainable and high-performance materials.
• Maintain familiarity with current literature and advances in relevant fields.
• Accurately records, analyses, interprets, and reports experimental data to stakeholders.
• Focus on safe lab operations, managing lab routines, including equipment maintenance.
• Demonstrates excellent communication skills with presentations to internal technical colleagues, including R&D, Business Teams, and Production.
• Contribute to a creative R&D environment, including ideation and innovation discussions, leading to a robust project pipeline.

Job Qualifications

• Minimum Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Polymer Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, or related field required. Master’s or PhD degree preferred.
• Minimum 4 years’ experience in relevant field.
• Chemical synthesis experience in an industrial, academic, or government research lab preferred.
• Knowledge of polymer chemistry and formulation technology is a plus.
• Experience of characterization of chemical compounds via analytical techniques such as NMR, IR, GC, DSC, DMA, TGA, etc.
• Able to review and interpret scientific and patent literature; contribute to internal WACKER IP generation
• Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work in cross-functional teams.
• Strong commitment to environmental health and safety excellence.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills supported by technical publications and/or presentations
• Strong problem-solving skills with a high level of curiosity and engagement.
