WACKER SILICONES is one of the world’s biggest silicone manufacturers with silicone-based system solutions and over 3,000 different products. At our Ann Arbor site, we are currently looking for a ​Laboratory Technician I/II​ to join our growing team.

 

Purpose:

This position will ensure efficient quality control and analytical support for the plant and the process support units. This position will be responsible for refining analytical aspects of in-plant testing. This position will carry out routine analyses and none-routine lab experiments for trouble shooting.

 

Job Responsibilities:

  • Perform laboratory analyses duties
  • Follow company policies
  • To independently conduct all steps of the analyses required for in-plant testing
  • To use existing software for evaluation and documentation purposes
  • Ability to work safely and independently or in a team
  • Interact with databases and computer software; enter data and retrieve data
  • Observe/differentiate between standard conditions and deviations from normal
  • Cooperate with the other qualified staff in scheduling and coordinating servicing, trouble shooting and preventative maintenance
  • Ensure environmentally compatible disposal and recycling of waste
  • Contact appropriate personnel when additional expertise is required
  • Documentation – electronic and physical record keeping
  • Identify opportunities to improve processes in area of responsibility
  • Follow company policies regarding health and environmental protection, work safety, plant safety, and quality
  • Participate in the planning, implementation, and control of experiments
  • Evaluate test results
  • Refine analytical methods and equipment used in the analyses of trichlorosilane samples
  • Prepare and update test specifications
  • Communication of results and deviations/observations from non-routine analyses
  • Provide technical assistance to other lab employees regarding analytical and data-processing aspects
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Associate degree in science related field is required; Bachelor’s degree in chemistry or related field is preferred
  • Safe working skills with openly handled highly hazardous chemicals
  • Strong team attitude; able to train new team members
  • Specialist knowledge of instrumental analysis (ICP-OES, FAAS, GFAAS or GC-FID, GC-TCD, GC-MS)
  • Specialist knowledge of the chemistry and technology associated with the production of polysilicon preferred computer skills including database experience (SAP)
  • Able to understand and carry out complex instructions and maintain confidentiality and integrity
  • Ability to work well within a team environment
  • Safety, detail, and quality oriented; having environmental consciousness
  • Bend, crawl, crouch, lift up to 50 lbs., reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, climb up to 100 feet
  • Must perform routine, repetitive tasks with hands and stand longer periods of time
  • Be able to work overtime (including weekends and holidays)
  • Must pass pre-employment testing
