At our Ann Arbor Innovation Center, we are currently looking for additional scientists as we further grow our R&D team.


Job Responsibilities

  • Using computational chemistry and data science tools, independently contribute to interdisciplinary R&D projects for the target market Personal Care and beyond, with a focus on sustainable, biodegradable and high performance materials within a global team environment.
  • Implement and develop machine learning and artificial intelligence methods for structure property relationships and formulation design, and apply these methods as appropriate to experimental data from R&D and application teams.   
  • Perform quantum chemical calculations for molecules and predict physical characteristics such as solubility parameters from the results.
  • Maintain familiarity with current literature and advances in relevant fields.
  • Accurately record, analyse, interpret, and report experimental and simulated data to stakeholders.
  • Proactively focus on workplace safety, including ergonomics.
  • Demonstrate excellent communication skills with presentations to internal technical colleagues, including R&D, Business Teams, and Production.
  • Contribute to a creative R&D environment, including ideation and innovation discussions, leading to a robust project pipeline.


Job Qualifications

  • Minimum Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Polymer Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, or related field required. Master's or PhD degree preferred.
  • Minimum 4 years' experience in relevant field.
  • Knowledge of polymer chemistry, formulation technology and/or bio-based materials polymers is a plus.
  • Strong command of standard software packages with a focus on computational chemistry - preferably Turbomole and COSMO/RS, MATLAB.
  • Knowledge and experience in the field of programming languages required, for example Perl, R, Python.
  • Experience with the usage of a Linux system preferable.
  • Experience in the fields of machine learning or artificial intelligence advantageous.
  • Experience in the field of thermodynamics and concepts such as solubility parameters preferred.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work in cross-functional teams.
  • Strong commitment to environmental health and safety excellence.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills supported by technical publications and/or presentations.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with a high level of curiosity and engagement.
