WACKER SILICONES is one of the world’s biggest silicone manufacturers with silicone-based system solutions and over 3,000 different products. At our Ann Arbor site, we are currently looking for a Chemist I to join our growing team.
We are looking for a Chemist to join our successful team in Ann Arbor. The responsibility of the Chemist is to provide technical support to the Personal Care market segment on our Consumer Silicones business team. Our primary goal is to develop formulation prototypes which highlight the full range of WACKER products in the Personal Care market segment. These developments will support the growth of our market share in the Personal Care market segment. Communication with customers is essential to the success of these projects. As the Chemist gains experience, there is the opportunity for personal development and growth of responsibilities. The position will be located at our brand-new Innovation Center in Ann Arbor, MI.
Job Responsibilities
- Assist in the development of new products and formulations which fit customer needs through lab testing and experimentation. Use creativity and innovation to develop prototypes which highlight the use of personal care ingredients in alignment with market trends.
- Provide technical support to customers and sales managers for the products in the Personal Care market segment. The contact points are made through e-mails, phone calls and personal visits (travel up to 10%). Actively participate in internal innovation meetings, external conferences, and trade shows by presenting testing results and developments. Actively participate in the sales cycle by providing technical guidance and formulating starting points.
- Collaborate with local and global functional teams (technical, marketing, sales, managers, supply chain and production) on current and/or future products with technical guidance, customer's path forward, market assessments and/or support.
- Organize data into reports and presentations to support technical information sharing with customers and internal technical colleagues. Properly document all lab activities. (10 %)
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Polymer Science, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Paper Engineering, or a related field
- Knowledge of silicone chemistry, basic synthesis, catalysis chemistry, and/or experience studying reaction thermodynamics preferred
- Willingness to travel up to 30%
- Good lab practice and safety skills
- Good computer skills
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
- Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively
