The role of an Operations Manager and Site Leader ensure all safety protocols and policies are strictly adhered to and the team is proactively managing risk and hazards. He/She will also be responsible for driving compliance to industry and company regulations. He/she will provide strategic direction for the manufacturing facility. This role is critical to the efficient and effective functioning of the WSMI organization as they continue to grow and adapt to more demanding requirements. It is essential to have a strong leader in this role who can oversee site safety, regulatory compliance and optimize processes ensuring that we deliver the highest quality products to our customers achieving our strategic objectives.
- Provide direction for all aspects of the WSMI manufacturing operations, including EHSS requirements and leverage the entrepreneurial spirit of the WSMI business model. He/She will also be responsible for site safety, driving compliance to industry and company regulations.
- Analysis of production operations to safely satisfy customer needs. Responsible for continuous improvement within Production.
- Monitor Key Performance Indicators and guide efforts for improvements in manufacturing costs, effectiveness, productivity, and service metrics including quality measures and on-time deliveries.
- Coordinates with key Division S partners in Supply Chain, Logistics, and Commercial Team (Sales, Marketing, Technical and Customer Service)
- The Operations manager will mentor the local production team fostering a culture of continuous improvement and collaboration. Align strategies and actions with larger Silicones Operations goals and objectives for the NCA Region
Essential Functions for this Position
- Safety and Compliance: The Ops leader will promote a safety culture and ensure all safety protocols and policies are strictly adhered to and the team is proactively addressing risk and hazards. They will also be responsible for driving compliance to industry and company regulations. They will be responsive to organizational policies and ensures compliance of all legal, ethical, EHSS and corporate requirements
- Regulatory Compliance: Operations Manager is responsible for compliance with policies and ensures compliance of all legal, ethical, EHSS and corporate requirements. He/she is responsible for facility EPA reporting and permitting
- Resource Management: The Operations Manager provides strategic direction and planning, ensuring optimal allocation and utilization of resources including personnel, equipment and materials to meet production targets set by supply chain and maximizing yield. In this role, the leader will work closely with the production controlling team to provide direction on the biggest opportunities for improvement that will create the most meaningful impact on profitability and yield. They will be responsible for leading all strategic execution of production matters while analyzing and driving continuous improvement for all Operations processes. The Operations Manager will oversee projects under the Manufacturing Engineer and oversee site facilities management, MRO under the Facilities Manager
- Quality Control: The Operations Manager will establish and maintain quality control standards ensuring that our products meet customer specifications. The Operations Manager is responsible for ensuring that the site meets the FDA and ISO standards as well as the procedures outlined in the company Quality Management System.
- Process Optimization: The Operations Manager will foster a LEAN culture and lead the site on improvement methods for problem solving. He/she will be responsible for improving and simplifying operational processes identifying bottlenecks and implementing solutions for productivity enhancement and efficiency while ensuring safety remains the unconditional value. Operations manager will work closely with the controlling team to monitor operational costs, find opportunities for automation, cost reduction and improve our bottom line.
- Communication: Maintains effective communication channels throughout the Wacker matrix/network; Participates in necessary Business Team and Divisional meetings; Reports regularly on results and activities. Coordinates with key Division S partners in Supply Chain for production schedule and resource planning, along with Logistics Department and Commercial Team which includes Sales, Marketing, Technical and Customer Service. Communicates regularly with these Division S partners to ensure alignment with their directives, goals and strategy. Works with Silicones Business Partners in EHSS and HR to administer divisional programs in each of these areas. Strategic contributor to WSMI S&OP.
- Personnel Development: Provides leadership, sets and communicates expectations, mentors and guides team members for professional growth. Establishes accountability for performance and professionalism. Executes a program of training for employee development. Identifies performers for advancement in the business. Evaluates the business for staffing gaps and risks. Collaborates with HR for personnel needs. Default time manager and disciplinary manager for the operations team. Reporting manager for team leaders, production staff and quality team
Position Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in a Technical Field or Operations Management is required, MBA preferred
- 10 years of experience in a manufacturing environment required
- Supervisory experience (ideally in a production environment)
- Strong record and passion for Safety practices in a production environment
- Experience with Silicone or Rubber businesses
- Experience with developing and managing budgets
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to influence and lead others
- Strategic thinking and ability to plan
- Ability to interact in a culturally diverse business setting
- Working knowledge of financial principles
