WACKER POLYMERS is the global technology leader in the development and production of redispersible powders, dispersions solid resins, powder binders and surface coating resins.
At our Allentown site, we are currently looking for a Chemist II/III - Coatings to be a part of our growing team.

 

 

Purpose

The Chemist- Coatings will support the NCA coatings business by conducting technical projects as part of the Coatings Application Development/Technical Service group.

 

Job Responsibilities

  • Independently managing technical projects - includes all necessary paint making, application, and testing, as well as interpretation and communication of results.
  • Combination of lab and office environments, the former of which typically includes contact with non-hazardous chemicals, however, there is the potential for contact with some hazardous materials such as biocides and other additives.
  • May include directly managing new product development projects which involves working directly with R&D and being able to effectively communicate and influence throughout the organization.
  • Travel to customer sites, trade shows and production facilities as necessary
  • Domestic travel - up to 20-25% typically. Minimal to no travel at the moment due to pandemic.
  • Occasional heavy lifting (up to 50lbs.); combination of sitting (office work) and standing (lab work) throughout the day
  • Occasional odd schedule due to travel demands

 

Qualifications Required

  • Bachelor of Science degree in any science related field, required
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry or Materials Science, preferred
  • Minimum 7 years waterborne formulating experience with a preference for the coatings industry.
  • Hands-on laboratory experience with an innovative mentality to develop new products and new test methods when necessary
  • Understanding of chemistry and coatings industry
  • Time management
  • Project management
  • General laboratory safety and operational skills
  • Communication - includes oral and written
  • Thorough understanding of coatings formulating, application, and testing methods
  • Experienced with Microsoft Office and other computer programs,  and lab equipment
