WACKER SILICONES is one of the world’s biggest silicone manufacturers with silicone-based system solutions and over 3,000 different products. At our Adrian site, we are currently looking for a ​Technical Manager - Process Chemistry​ to join our growing team.


Job Responsibilities

This position will support the company's strategic growth and productivity goals by leading a team dedicated to decreasing production costs via improving production recipes, ensuring consistent quality, reducing customer complaints, and optimizing cycle times while supporting high safety performance

Responsibilities include:

  • Lead a team of process chemists and technicians to achieve increased productivity of high-quality products for the customers.
  • Successfully introduce new products into production. Product chemistry must be fully vetted to ensure high quality and safety can be consistently achieved.
  • Function as a Reaction Chemist, ensuring proper chemical compatibility of products within various equipment.
  • Maintain and create procedures to ensure compliance with Food Grade and FDA requirements for certain processes/products.
  • Troubleshoot production failures, and implement long-term corrective actions.
  • Resolve all customer complaints by expeditiously determining the root cause and developing operational improvements to prevent re-occurrence of defects.
  • Evaluate and approve replacement raw materials as proposed by Procurement or the Business Teams
  • Reduce cycle time to improve production capacity.
  • Increase production yield through waste stream reduction.
  • Create partnership with operational teams to effectively support 24hr/7days production and implement process improvements.
  • Align chemistries and processes with other sites globally.
  • Collaborate with various other teams (e.g. Business, EH&S, Engineering) to create solutions to meet goals.
  • Promote a safe work environment.
  • Support applicable product quality certifications (Kosher, Halal) and lead interactions with auditing bodies (EFfCI, cGMP).
  • Develop and maintain process safety information as required by applicable PSM standards.
  • Support the implementation of new production facilities/equipment, specifically related to establishing appropriate equipment design parameters and leading the corresponding commissioning activities. 
  • Support operator training efforts with respect to understanding the basic chemistry and safe handling of existing and new products
  • Evaluate and lead set up of tolling operations
  • Manage out-of-specification inventory by determining appropriate outlet (e.g. scrap, blend off, re-work)



  • Minimum Master's Degree in Chemistry / Chemical Engineering or related field (PhD preferred)
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in production environment or similar
  • Ability to troubleshoot and correct chemistry-related defects
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Proven leadership qualities, including for cross-functional teams
  • Excellent project management skills
  • High safety standards
  • Ability to effectively prioritize projects and tasks for a team
