At our Adrian site, we are currently looking for a ​Process Safety Lead​ to be a part of our growing team.

 

 

The Process Safety Lead will develop, implement, and ensure ongoing/day-to-day support of WACKER Process Safety Standards and Process Safety Management (PSM) programs for the ADR site; to assure compliance with WACKER requirements, OSHA and local process safety requirements and regulations (as required).  This position provides strong subject matter expertise to lead studies and evaluations, determine suitability, establish direction, conduct risk assessments, define safeguards, assess operability, interface with operations, engineering, construction, and commissioning colleagues.   This position will interface with Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) as well as initiatives within WACKER Global and Regional Safety departments. 

 

Job Responsibilities

  • Lead an effective Process Safety Program and implementation of improvements.
  • Lead/Support/Develop business specific standards and best practice efforts. 
  • Train and strengthen site PSM element and process owners in their PSM related duties including WACKER PSM and specific Procedures/Directives.
  • Provide training to employees and contractors (as required) to assure understanding and compliance with WACKER Process Safety requirements.
  • Ensure site PHA conducted effectively.  Review results of all PHAs for quality and thoroughness.  Lead Process Hazards Analysis (PHA) including WACEKR Safety Analysis. 
  • Provide support for LOPA (Layers of Protection Analysis) reviews of those risk scenarios requiring further assessment post PHA review as necessary.
  • Support PSM Excellence implementation following WACKER requirements, Regulatory requirements, and Industry Standards.  Identify needs required to comply with PSM requirements.
  • Track and follow-up action items with timely completion; addressing findings from PSM audits, PHA studies, and other PSM assessment activities.
  • Report upon site PSM activities and initiatives.
  • Lead and support with procedure development and provide direct support to their implementation efforts of new and existing standards (e.g., WACKER Process Safety Directives or SOPs).
  • Assist in their Hazard Assessment (Off-Site Consequence Analysis) modeling in accordance with local requirements (as required).
  • Participate in select Pre-Startup Safety Reviews (PSSRs) prior to startup of new or modified processes or equipment or after extended shutdown of equipment.  Periodically review site PSSRs for quality and completeness.  
  • Participate in Process Safety event investigations/root cause analysis to provide guidance to all sites.  In conjunction with site management teams, track progress of corrective actions.
  • Evaluate events and operational results and support the revising / updating of site policies, procedure revisions, and training to address process safety related findings.
  • Support the ADR site when interface is required with regulatory agencies as it relates to Process Safety Management. 
  • Provide evaluations and progress reports of ongoing programs to management as required.
  • Regularly consult with other experts and PSM best practices within and outside of WACKER (e.g., benchmark what we are doing with respect to others, learn from best practices in the process industry and understand trends).
  • Monitor regulatory changes, publicly available information, and significant incidents at other companies.
  • Lead or participate with required compliance audits of the PSM covered processes.

 

Job Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree required
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in process safety required
  • Detailed knowledge of U.S. regulations, with specificity to Process Safety requirements and chemical attributes of WACKER ADR site operations. 
  • Strong understanding of equipment and facility design, safety practices, standards, operations, maintenance, and industry regulations.  
  • Contribute to the development and maintenance of core documents such as internal Practices, Procedures, Design Guides and Engineering Standards.
  • Participate in professional/technical organizations and in the development and delivery of subject matter training.
